IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Building a home for yourself now-a-days becames so much expensive. You need to make a plan in addition you alway have some sort of income, which is passive. So that you don't need to think about. Building a house cost you around $100,000 to Millions dollar, which make it away from middle class pockets. Whereas if you going to rent a house it cost you around $20000 annually. Which is like 80 percent less the cost of building a home.
In some countries, prices of houses are so much expensive , you think about rent of the houses. Renting a house is more curical for person who does not have enough income to build a home for himself. Building a house cost you around somewhere betweem $100,000 to $2Million, only a rich guy can afford it.
For a middle class guy, barcket for the house is far away from his pocket. Developed counties want to grow their economy so they make thing more expensive to get more money in the form of taxes. I strongly disagree with the prices of houses in some countries, everyone should have the basic facilities. We take a example from my family, my father sold everything for a house to build . Afterwards, he doesn't have the money to run a any type of business which make to dependent on his brothers. You always a differnet type of income sources which help you in difficuilt times

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You address both the reasons people may value home ownership and whether this is positive or negative, and your position is partly clear: you object to high house prices and describe the financial risks of buying. The example about your father selling everything to build a house is relevant and helps illustrate your concern. However, the response focuses more on the cost of buying and renting than on why owning a home is especially important in some countries, and the positive-or-negative judgement is not fully explained. The discussion of taxes is also asserted without support. The response is 241 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. Develop the cultural or social reasons for ownership and explain your position with clearer, fuller support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is some organisation: the opening introduces the financial comparison, and the later paragraph moves towards affordability and a personal example. Basic linking expressions such as “Whereas,” “So,” and “Afterwards” show attempts to connect ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because several points repeat the claim that houses are expensive, and the relationship between renting, home ownership, taxes, and your final opinion is not consistently clear. Some sentences are fragments, such as “Which is like 80 percent less the cost of building a home,” and “You always a differnet type of income sources” does not connect clearly to the preceding example. Use distinct paragraphs for reasons, your evaluation, and supporting examples, and make each sentence’s link to the main argument explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “passive” income, “middle class,” “annually,” “afford,” and “basic facilities,” which helps communicate the financial theme. There is also an attempt to express comparison through phrases such as “80 percent less.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “barcket for the house,” “curical,” and “make thing more expensive.” Spelling errors such as “difficuilt,” “differnet,” and “counties” also reduce precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases for housing and affordability, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the cost of purchasing a home from the reasons people value ownership.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both short statements and longer sentences, and some basic meaning is understandable. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to read. Examples include “Building a house cost you,” “if you going to rent,” and “which make to dependent on his brothers.” The fragment “Which is like 80 percent less…” also shows difficulty joining clauses correctly. Try building accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex forms using “because,” “although,” or “which.” Check subject–verb agreement and ensure each sentence has a complete main clause; this will make your argument much clearer.
