In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In som countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people.

In my opinion this is a positive situation because this situation cause you to have your own home. From my point of view almost every person have a dream to have its own home. Having your own home has many benefits as compared to renting one. In renting home owner can anytime give notice to leave house. In such countries Government gives loan to buy home than you have to pay a fix amount back to bank known as mortgage. My elder borther is living in UK. When he went their he rented a house for living. He has to paid a big amount of his earning as rent. Than soon someone gave him advice. He barrow a loan from the bank and bought his own home. Now he has to pay a reasonable amount as a mortgage to the bank. Now he know that he is paying for his own home and he is living a happy life. So, having your own home is a big blessing.

One of my friend who is in abroad. He is living their for more than 10 years. He is still living in a rented house. Last time he told me that he made a big mistake that he did not buy his own home. Because few month ago his landowner give him notice to vacant the house within one month. So, he has to move to another place. He said that his family was very attached to this place because they were living here for ten years. Now he decided to has his own home.

In countries where Government gives loan to buy home. In my opinion one should avail this opportunity rather then renting a home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear view that home ownership is positive and support it with two relevant examples: your brother’s mortgage and your friend’s experience of being asked to leave a rented home. These examples explain the security and personal benefits of owning. However, the task asks both why ownership is important in some countries and whether this is positive or negative. The response focuses mainly on personal advantages and does not explain broader reasons, such as cultural expectations, investment, or limited rental security. The final paragraph also repeats your position rather than developing the reasons further. To strengthen the response, address both parts explicitly and explain each main idea beyond the anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and the examples are generally grouped into separate paragraphs. The sequence from your brother’s experience to your friend’s experience is understandable, and phrases such as “In my opinion” and “So” signal your stance and a conclusion. However, progression is limited: the opening repeats the task, and the final paragraph restates the preference for ownership without adding a developed conclusion. Linking is often mechanical or unclear, as in “In such countries Government gives loan” and “Than soon someone gave him advice.” Some references, including “this place” and “their,” require the reader to infer the intended meaning. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to a reason why ownership matters.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “rent,” “loan,” “mortgage,” “landowner,” and “notice.” The examples also show an attempt to describe housing and financial arrangements. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the reader pause: “fix amount” for a set payment, “barrow a loan,” and “vacant the house.” Spelling errors such as “som,” “borther,” and “their” (where “there” is intended) are noticeable. Repetition of “own home,” “living,” and “big” also restricts precision. Build a wider set of accurate housing-related expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main meaning through mostly simple sentences and make some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “Because few month ago his landowner give him notice to vacant the house within one month.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “every person have,” “He has to paid,” “Now he know,” and “he decided to has.” The opening fragment, “In som countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people,” also repeats the prompt rather than forming a developed introduction. Practise accurate past-tense narration and subject–verb agreement, and use a wider range of correctly formed complex sentences.
