IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is believed by many individuals that personal home is very important rather than to living for renting. In this essay I will explain why I agree with this statement and why it is positive.
On the one hand, it is important for everyone to have their personal home. Everyone like to be their life private and they live to live according to their taste. In their own home thay can do anything what they want. Moreover, people do not have to feel uneasy in their owm home. They can cook and eat whatever they want. In addition, they feel that they can feel more relaxed in their own home rather than to living for renting house. They can make their home more spacious as they do not like to live in congested apartments. Moreover, they can make gardens in front of their home, which enhances not only the beauty of home but also provides greenary.
On the other hand, it has many reasons that people prefer their own house. Firstly, they have to move with belongings and furniture wherever they shift. Sometime they paying pay rent for living but then they do not live the house so it can be difficult for them to move from on place to another. Moreover, some job people return late to home so if they live for renting house it may cause difficulty because house owners sometimes make argues for being late. Some people do not like the food where they renting so they have to ordewr food which is very expencive.
In conclusion, I believe that it is a positive situation because people can live according to their taste. They do not have to live uneasily.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear positive view in the introduction and conclusion, and you offer relevant reasons such as privacy, freedom to arrange a home, and avoiding difficulties with landlords. However, the task asks both why home ownership is important and whether this is positive or negative; the response does not consistently distinguish owning a home from simply living in a rented home. Several points, including food preferences and moving belongings, are not clearly connected to the benefits of ownership, and the reasons are mostly listed rather than explained. Develop a smaller number of relevant ideas by showing how ownership provides stability or control, then explain why you consider those benefits positive. This would make the response address both parts more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. You also use signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion.” However, the two body paragraphs do not create a clear progression: the first lists advantages, while the second begins “On the other hand” but continues with further reasons for preferring ownership rather than presenting a contrasting view. Repeated additions with “Moreover” and “In addition” make the development feel mechanical, and some links between sentences are unclear. Organise the body around distinct reasons, use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s focus, and make the relationship between each example and the main point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “private,” “relaxed,” “congested apartments,” and “belongings and furniture.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “personal home,” “live for renting,” “make argues,” and “greenary”; spelling errors such as “thay,” “owm,” and “expencive” also reduce accuracy. Try to use precise phrases for the central topic, such as “own a home,” “rent a property,” and “housing costs,” and check spelling carefully. Building a small set of accurate housing-related expressions would help you express your ideas more clearly and avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a relative clause in “gardens in front of their home, which enhances…” and a conditional sentence beginning “if they live…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns, agreement, verb forms and articles. For example, “Everyone like” needs subject–verb agreement, “they live to live” is not a workable construction, and “Sometime they paying pay rent” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence about people returning late also has an unclear grammatical structure. Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and conditionals, checking each sentence for a clear subject, verb and article.
