IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that people who have their own home is more satisfied and think this is very important than those who lives in rented homes. I agree with this view partly because people prefer to live according to what matters to them, While I believe that it not completely a positive situation .Therefore, it can have negative aspects on the people lives.
On the one side, there are several reasons why people in some countries think that owing a home is very important because they feel satisfied having their own home and the are economic stable. One benefit is that they do not need to move to the other areas or cities after sometime when things happen for those people who lives in rented homes. For instance, a person who have their own home and he has family then he ahs some financial security for himself and his family.
On the other hand, there are few negative aspects also on people lives who do not have enough money and if they put all savings in buying home for financial security and it would be difficult for them to fulfil the basic needs. In addition, when they will be in trouble then due to not having urgent money savings then their become difficult. Therefore, people prefer to live in renting homes or have to buy their own home according to their living standards.
In conclusion, I believe that having own home give people a financial security and stable life but do not believe that it is completely a positive situation. However people should live according to their standard of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that owning a home can provide satisfaction, stability and financial security, and you explain that spending savings on a purchase may make basic needs harder to afford. Your view is that home ownership is not entirely positive, which is relevant, but it is not consistently expressed: the opening says you agree only partly, while the conclusion mainly repeats that it is not completely positive. The reasons are also under-developed. For example, the point about avoiding moves is relevant, but the essay does not explain why this matters particularly in the countries described. Develop each reason with clearer explanation and a specific example, and state your overall judgement more directly and consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through your ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from satisfaction to economic stability and then to avoiding relocation without fully connecting these points. Linking phrases such as “On the one side” and “On the other hand” help signal contrast, but “Therefore” is used where the relationship between ideas is not clear, and the conclusion introduces little synthesis. Some references, including “their” in “their become difficult,” are difficult to follow. Organise each paragraph around one main point, explain it in sequence, and use linking words only when the logical relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial security,” “basic needs,” “savings,” and “living standards,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “economic stable” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “owning a home” is repeated without much variation. Phrases such as “people lives” and “live in renting homes” also show difficulty selecting the correct form or collocation. These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for housing, affordability and stability, and check that nouns, adjectives and verbs combine naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional idea about people using their savings to buy a home. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty; errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. Examples include “people who have their own home is,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “those who lives,” which also has an agreement error. The sentence beginning “While I believe that it not completely…” is incomplete or incorrectly joined, while “when they will be in trouble” uses an unsuitable tense pattern. Work on subject–verb agreement, complete sentence boundaries, and conditional clauses. Shorter, accurately controlled sentences will help make your reasoning clearer before you add more complex structures.
