IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

In recent years lot of countries owning a home rather than renting home is very important for peoples . Lot of countries many people prefer renting home is very important than owning home .From my prospectives , this is a negative trend .

First and foremost lot of countries people like renting home , and they sold out their own home this trend is a negative . When we share home than others they donot care home and do not safe , and when the house condition are bad they do not repaire . However the totally condition are bad and they go out next home . for example when the house are people own and they save this house and they repaire and maintinence for all type of problem .

As well as , in my country lot of people prefer renting house , because they are poor , and lot of rich peoples they bought a all kind of house , and they share people they sneding to the renting . Furthermore Many people have a bussines method . In my opinion own hose is better than renting house . For example , when people bought own house they save renting money .

In order to a recapitulate , in my opinion renting house is not good than all of these peoples .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a clear view that owning a home is preferable, and you offer relevant points about caring for a property and avoiding rent. However, the response only minimally answers the full question: it does not clearly explain why home ownership is important in some countries, and the reasons offered are brief or difficult to follow. For example, the point that owners “save renting money” is relevant but needs explanation, while the discussion of poorer people and wealthy landlords is not clearly connected to why ownership matters. The response is also 25 words below the required minimum. Develop each part of the question with a clear reason and a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “First and foremost” and “Furthermore” signal new points. However, ideas are not arranged coherently enough for the reader to follow the argument consistently. The opening gives conflicting information about whether people prefer renting or owning, and the relationship between the points about poor renters, rich landlords and home ownership is unclear. Some linking phrases, including “As well as” and “In order to a recapitulate,” are used inaccurately and do not create clear connections. Plan a simple sequence—reasons for the preference, your evaluation, then a conclusion—and use references and transitions that make each relationship explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “home,” “house,” “people” and “renting.” Some wording communicates relevant ideas, such as “owning a home” and “maintain” (intended in “repaire and maintinence”), but inaccurate word choice and spelling often strain the reader. Examples include “from my prospectives,” “they sold out their own home,” “bussines method” and “sneding to the renting”; these make the intended meaning difficult to identify. Build a more precise set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For instance, distinguish “home ownership” from “renting,” and use phrases such as “property maintenance” and “monthly rent” accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some longer structures, including clauses beginning with “when” and “because,” but control is limited and errors are frequent enough to distort meaning. Examples include “lot of countries owning a home … is very important,” where the sentence structure is unclear, and “when the house are people own,” which has problems with word order, agreement and verb form. Articles and plurals are also often missing or inconsistent, as in “renting home” and “many people … they sold.” Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are inconsistent. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one clear subordinate clause; check subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms during revision.
