IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In today's rapidly growing world, every individual has desire to owning a house rather then renting a property. I strongly agree with this, i firmly believe that owning a residential property is good decision because it provide strong financial backing and a safe and comfortable environment.
To commence with the first point of view, strong financial backing. If someone has their own house they are somewhere in very comfortable zone beacuse of the financial support that provided by their house. Any loan can be sension to their family in any emergency situation.
For example, if any young student wants to study in abroad and but their is any financial problem in paying tution fee of his university then they can easily take loan. Any bank can provide loan to them on the basis of their house value.
Another factor worth considering is the safe environment. There are many beautiful rental appartments but the safety is alway the concern, environment that human feels in their own house is unmatchable. In private property, comfort level is on next level. Their is no worry of any force increment of rents. For instance, in cities like Gurugram and Noida the rents of the rental flats are rise sharply. Every year owner increase the rent of their properties and the residents have to pay for it and for the maintaince of the property. The general public suffer very much in these situations.
To conclude, i firmly maintain that, owning a house is very important for very person. This is primarily beacause of the safe environment for their families, while strong financial backing further rainforce the standpoint.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it gives reasons for the importance of home ownership and clearly presents it as positive. The two main reasons—using a property to obtain financial support and having a more secure living environment—are relevant, and the examples about student loans and rising rents help illustrate them. However, the financial argument is not fully clear: the claim that a house provides “strong financial backing” and enables a loan needs more explanation, and the student example is awkwardly connected to home ownership. The discussion of security also focuses more on rent increases and comfort than on safety itself. Develop each reason more precisely and explain how it answers the question to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates the position. Signposting such as “Another factor worth considering” helps readers follow the progression. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. “To commence with the first point of view” does not accurately introduce the financial reason, while “For example” leads into a scenario whose link to owning a home is not fully explained. There is also some repetition of the conclusion’s ideas in the introduction and final paragraph. Use more direct topic sentences and make the relationship between each example and its supporting point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “residential property,” “financial backing,” “rental flats,” and “maintaince of the property.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “sension” appears to mean “sanction,” “force increment of rents” is unclear, and “the rents … are rise sharply” is not a natural expression. Repeated use of “house,” “property,” and “safe environment” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “use their home as collateral,” “rent increases,” and “a sense of security,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts at complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If someone has their own house…” and a relative clause in “the financial support that provided by their house.” However, sentence control is uneven, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “every individual has desire to owning,” “it provide,” “if any young student wants … then they can,” and “the rents … are rise sharply.” Articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction need more consistent control. Some sentences are also fragments, such as “To commence with the first point of view, strong financial backing.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and verb forms.
