IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some countries of the world people prefer to have own personal house rather than renting the one. They have different opinoins to prove their point and these are also correct in many ways as well.I thinks in this era of financial inflammation its very hard to own a personal space at the same time it is one of the basic inate desire of every living thing.
Owning a house provides you sense of stablitity and security. You can develope more stronge social relations with neighours as compare to be in rented place.More importantly, it saves you from the hustle of changing houses multiple times. You can alter and decorate it acoording to you. You do not need the permission of anyone for the changings that you want to do.
On the other hand, this dream is not easy for every personal as the finacials vary person to person. Many people spend large proportion of their whole life in savings. They have to secrifice even on their basic needs for it.While other have to take big loans in oder to fulfill this dream which also have drastic results. In such situations renting a house is the best alternative. At least you can have a house rather than been on a road.
Renting house have its side effects as well. You are not sure about the time of your stay at a place. Your owner can break the agreement any time. Multiple shifting is frusting for your financials as well as for your mental and physical heath. Some time you also have to overlook your needs.
Therefore, we can say the owning a house is important over renting it. Even birds and animal have this. But at the same time we can not deny the hurdles in achieving it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain why people value ownership, citing security, stability, stronger neighbourhood relationships and freedom to decorate, and you discuss the financial sacrifices and risks involved. Your conclusion makes your view clear that owning is important, while acknowledging the difficulties. However, the positive-or-negative judgement is not fully developed: the response lists advantages and disadvantages but does not clearly explain whether the overall situation is positive or negative and why. Some points, such as the claim that ownership is a basic desire shared by living things, are asserted rather than connected to the question. Develop the reasons and make your overall evaluation explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs on the benefits and costs of ownership, a paragraph on renting, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and transitions such as “On the other hand” and “Therefore” help signal the direction of the argument. However, the relationship between the paragraphs is not always clear: the discussion shifts from the difficulty of buying to the disadvantages of renting without explicitly linking these points to your final judgement. Some connections are mechanical, and punctuation spacing sometimes makes sentences run together. Use clearer topic sentences and refer back to the question’s positive-or-negative choice as you develop each paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “stability,” “security,” “social relations,” “savings,” “loans” and “alternative.” These choices help communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision, for example “financial inflammation,” “stablitity,” “develope,” “frusting” and “financials.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “have own personal house” and “changing houses multiple times.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they can cause hesitation. Build a more accurate set of topic-related expressions and check spelling and natural word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrastive structures such as “On the other hand” and clauses explaining consequences. The main message is usually understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammar occur across the response. For example, “I thinks” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, “Owning a house provides you sense” is missing an article, and “Renting house have its side effects” has problems with both the noun phrase and agreement. Some sentences also join ideas without clear punctuation, as in the opening paragraph. Work on articles, agreement, plural forms and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence to ensure its clauses are complete and correctly connected.
