IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Owning a house is the biggest achievement for some while other opposed it. Having your own place is a feeling or being owner of something that others dream while other think that its a waste of money and stupid decision. i totally oppose the notion as it is a negative situation for middle class people.
In my oppinion,In developing countries, if a person belongs from a middle class background, their priority would be having a house instead of owning a business. However, in this tough economy, a sustainable income is very importent and people do not acknowledge that. People should impower their source of income first while renting a house or flat. Mediocre class put their savings to build a house and remain empty handed with no saving left which keep them mediocre.people try to save their rents and choose their accommodation over their source of income.
On the other hand, people who put their saving in stalk-market or other advantageous business can built many houses while keeping their source of earning safe. For example, the common problem face by many who were renting a house or a flat with limited resources and tired of paying hefty rents and immediately buy a place to live to prevent themselves from paying rents.
In conclusion, people are frustarted by paying utilities, transpotation, accmmodation and other expenses so, they choose to by their place so they could live rent-free while do not thing about their long-term benefits by investing that amount in a sustainable bussiness or work.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a clear overall view that prioritising home ownership can be negative for middle-class people, and you offer relevant points about using savings to build income and avoiding rent. However, the task asks both why home ownership is important in some countries and whether this is positive or negative. The response focuses mainly on why it may be financially unwise, so the reasons people value ownership—such as security, status, or cultural expectations—are not clearly explained. The business-investment argument is relevant but remains general, and the example about renters buying a home does not clearly support your position. Develop both parts of the question with specific explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” signal transitions. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For instance, the second body paragraph shifts from investing in the stock market to renters buying a home, without explaining how this example supports the argument against prioritising ownership. Some points are repeated, particularly the contrast between paying rent and investing for income. Use each paragraph to develop one main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and use referencing and linking phrases more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “sustainable income,” “source of income,” “limited resources” and “hefty rents,” which helps communicate the financial argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations and spelling errors make parts of the response difficult to interpret. Examples include “Mediocre class,” “stalk-market,” “impower,” and “choose their accommodation over their source of income.” The final phrase “do not thing about their long-term benefits” also obscures your intended meaning. Build a more accurate set of phrases for housing and finance, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your ideas clearer and reduce repetition of “house,” “income” and “rent.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You use some longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “while” and “which,” but attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make reading difficult. For example, “Mediocre class put their savings … and remain empty handed … which keep them mediocre” has problems with articles, agreement and clause structure. The opening also contains incomplete or unclear constructions, such as “Owning a house is the biggest achievement for some while other opposed it.” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including the lowercase “i” and missing spaces after full stops. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
