IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people tend to consider that they should own a home rather than residing at a rental apartment because it lessens the financial burden for some people. This essay consider this arguement in an optimistic sense because this can actually be considered as one of the futuristic development as well as reduction in financial burden of individuals.
In recent years,it ihas become one of the most popular thought that people should buy a piece of land or own a land all by themselves to be out of financial tension and create a better future for their upcoming generations.Additionally,a piece of land provides an individual with a sense of freedom which derives a better personality from a person. Many households are tend to reside at a rental apartment or home where they face various restrictions and difficulties.Furthermore, paying the rent each month tend to become a financial pressure on the family members whom are employed with a job. Moreover, these rents does not only come with the home rent only it also comes with the utility bills, water bills and gas bills. As a consequence, the working individuals of our households tend to feel frustrated.
From my perspective,I believe that individual households prefers to have a home of their own to reduce the financial hurdles of every month. For instance,if a person who is paying the rent of the house they are living in fails to provide the rent for even one month they they are obliged to give an explanation with a time restriction which can be frustrating for many individuals. Now,if they have their own home then they can live in a peaceful environment without any restrictions and a warrant of paying the bills or rents.Furthermore, they can reside at their own place with a sense of independence and the willingness to decorate the home as they desired as well.
In conclusion, according to my preference people will ensure their future with a sense of freedom through this positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear positive view and offer relevant reasons why home ownership may matter, including reduced rent pressure, greater independence, and freedom to decorate. The example of a tenant struggling to pay rent also supports your position. However, the response only partly develops the task: the reasons are mostly presented as benefits rather than explaining more fully why owning a home is especially important in some countries, and several claims remain general. The discussion of utility bills, for example, does not clearly distinguish costs that owners may also face. To strengthen the response, explain the social or cultural factors behind this preference and develop each main reason with precise, balanced support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and its overall direction—from reasons for ownership to your positive opinion—is understandable. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: financial pressure, rent and bills are repeated without a clear hierarchy, while the second body paragraph restates the same benefits. Some connections are also unclear, such as the move from rent to utility bills and the claim that owning a home removes the need to pay bills. Use topic sentences to establish distinct points, group related support together, and make references such as “this” and “they” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “financial burden,” “sense of freedom,” “financial pressure” and “independence,” which helps communicate the central argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “futuristic development” does not fit the intended idea, “derive a better personality” is an awkward collocation, and “a warrant of paying the bills” is unclear. Spelling and word-form slips such as “arguement” and “ihas” are noticeable. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling; simpler accurate wording will be more effective than ambitious but unsuitable phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because,” “where” and “if,” so there is some structural variety. However, errors are frequent and sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “This essay consider” instead of “This essay considers,” “Many households are tend” instead of “Many households tend,” and “these rents does” instead of “these rents do.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas and the run-on opening sentence. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
