IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
So,for some people it is really important to own a home rather than renting one.Because i think some individuals wants to have a personal residence for their family and future generations. And it can be one of the most vital reason for the public to buying a house instead of renting one.Eventually it has become a very common thing in my country.Because in my country people around me have personal house. And they always prefer to own a house rather living on a rent home.Because almost every individuals who are living nearby my house they think that owning a home can be more benificial. And it gives the local power of owning a home ina area. Moreover, building my own house can be really a vital thing for the society.Everyone wants to have a own property. That is why they want to owning a home rather than renting one and live there life.Although i have seen this kind of situations in real life but i do not think that it is very appropriate to live in a personal residence rather than living in a rent home.
As a example,my uncle was always wanted to live in a personal residence but he was living in a rent house for the rest of his life. But he took loan from the bank and started making his own residence to live in.And he always said that it is a pride to have your own house in your area.Because of that he build a house without thinking about the odds. For me it is definently a negative situation.
In conclusion,i just want to say sometimes it way more better to live in a rent house rather than living in a personal home.Because it is not worth everything and ego can be very bad sometimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value a home for family and future generations, and you state that you see this as negative. However, the reasons are repeated rather than clearly explained, and some claims—such as owning a home giving “the local power”—are difficult to understand. Your uncle’s story offers a relevant example of taking a bank loan and feeling pride, but you do not explain sufficiently why this makes home ownership a negative situation. The position also shifts: you first describe ownership as important and common, then say renting is better, without fully clarifying the distinction between why people value ownership and your own judgement. Develop one or two reasons and connect them directly to your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall shape, with an opening discussion, an example about your uncle, and a concluding opinion. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several ideas are repeated and linked mainly through “Because,” “And,” and “Moreover.” For example, the opening repeatedly says people want to own a house, but does not move clearly from the reasons to your evaluation. Some sentence boundaries are also unclear, making the reader work to identify where one idea ends and another begins. Organise the response into distinct paragraphs for reasons, your negative view with support, and the conclusion. Use a wider range of linking expressions and make references such as “it” and “this” clearly point to a specific idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “personal residence,” “future generations,” “rent,” “property,” and “loan from the bank.” This gives you a basic range for discussing housing and ownership. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly “own a home,” “house,” and “rent,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “local power of owning a home,” “live on a rent home,” and “live there life.” Spelling errors such as “benificial” and “definently” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use precise, natural phrases and check spelling; for example, explain the financial or emotional benefit rather than using the unclear phrase “local power.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, including “Although i have seen this kind of situations in real life but i do not think…” and the example about your uncle taking a loan. However, the range is limited and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “some individuals wants,” “they want to owning,” and “he build a house”; these show problems with subject–verb agreement and verb forms. Several sentence fragments begin with “Because,” and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, as in “So,for” and “In conclusion,i.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed clauses, and check agreement, articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries.
