IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In certain countries, many people argue that ownig a house is more significant than renting a house. In my perspective, i strongly believe that this is a good decision because this can give them privacy and flexibility in work.
Nowadays, majority of people prefer to live in their own house rather than a rental house. This often occurs because of the taunts of the owner. As people with poor fianacial condition own a rental one. So, sometimes they might not give the rent on time and the owner cause trouble and abuse them. Therefore, individuals prefer to make their own house.
The first reason behind my opinion us that it will give individuals privacy. While staying in a rented house, they don't have privacy as the family members of the owner comes to your room. Moreover, the crying of their babies may disturb your sleeping cycle. They find mistakes in your work and cause mental disturbance. On the contray, if you are staying in your own house, you will enjoy your own space and don't get any bad comments on your work also.
Another reason supporting this view is flexibility in the work. People staying with a bunch of people may have to work on turns. This wastes a quality of their time everyday because they have to wait for others to finish. For instance, in some rented houses, girls have to wash clothes on turns and wait until the first one finishes. But if they live in their own house they can perform any task at any time according to their schedule and intrest.
In conclusion, I would say that building your own home is a good decision instead of renting one because this will give you space and work-flexibility.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You answer both parts of the question: you suggest that people value ownership to avoid problems with landlords and explain why you see it as positive, citing privacy and greater control over daily routines. Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion. However, the reasons are only partly developed. The discussion of landlords focuses on rent difficulties and abuse, but does not explain more broadly why owning a home is important in some countries, such as security, investment, or social expectations. The privacy and work-flexibility points are relevant, though examples such as sharing laundry turns need clearer explanation and connection to home ownership. Develop each reason with a fuller explanation and make the country-specific context more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why ownership is preferred, two paragraphs supporting your positive view, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The first reason” and “Another reason” helps readers follow the main points. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As people with poor financial condition own a rental one. So…” is a fragment followed by a loosely connected sentence, and the shift from landlord problems to privacy could be smoother. References such as “they” and “your” also move between general people and the reader, making the focus less consistent. Use complete sentences, maintain a consistent point of view, and connect examples explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “privacy,” “rented house,” “mental disturbance,” and “schedule.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “sleeping cycle” and “work-flexibility.” However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which can make meaning less clear. “Taunts of the owner” does not clearly express the problems you describe, while “a quality of their time” is not an appropriate collocation. Spelling errors such as “ownig,” “fianacial,” “contray,” and “intrest” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of phrases for housing security, landlord disputes, and control over household routines, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if you are staying in your own house” and clauses introduced by “because” and “while.” These attempts show some range, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “As people with poor fianacial condition own a rental one” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, and “the family members of the owner comes” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also inconsistent shifts between “individuals,” “they,” and “you,” as well as problems with sentence boundaries in “So, sometimes they might not give the rent on time and the owner cause trouble.” Practise complete clauses, agreement, and consistent pronouns before adding more complex structures.
