IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
According to the given case I think it is a possitive case to have their own home . It is very important to have their own homes rather than living in renting home . I think it is very difficult to live in the rent house because many poor peoples are also live in the society that cannot bear the huge charges of house.those countries who to live in their their own houses make progress day by day by saving their incomes. This case has many positive aspects because people of the countries fell their possessions and become an independent person of that countries. in this way the nation of the country and the youths also work for the benefits of countries. And the people of that country love with their country and they become a true petroit. In this way the inspiration about patrotism is increase in that countries and they become happy.
if they live in the rent house they always worried about paying the rent of their houses.
In conclision i concluded that by living in their own houses is a positive situation . By living their own houses people of that houses decorate their own houses by thir own taste.Their is no complication in their own hoses.they have no fair of paying rent. If the hose is destroy by any reason than no body abuse the house holder. we have to pay the heavy ammounts for the rent of house in this way they cannot fuiifill thir others basic needs by living in rent house. thats why i prefer to live in own houses

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You clearly state that owning a home is positive, and you give relevant reasons, including avoiding rent, having control over how a home is decorated, and feeling a sense of ownership. However, the response only partly answers why home ownership is especially important in some countries: ideas about national progress and patriotism are asserted rather than explained, and the link between owning homes and a country’s development is unclear. Several points repeat the contrast with renting instead of being developed with examples or explanation. To strengthen the response, explain specific reasons such as housing security, cultural expectations, or investment, then support each with a clear example. Keep your position consistent and make the connection between each reason and your overall view explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic overall shape: you introduce your positive view, give reasons, and provide a concluding paragraph. Some ideas are connected with phrases such as “In this way” and “In conclusion,” but these links are often repetitive and do not always show a clear relationship between points. The discussion moves from rent costs to national progress and patriotism, then back to rent, without a clear sequence. Paragraphing is also limited, with several different ideas crowded together. Organise the response into distinct paragraphs: one explaining why ownership matters, another evaluating its benefits and possible drawbacks, and a conclusion. Use referencing and linking phrases only where they clarify how one idea follows from another.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “independent,” “possessions,” “basic needs,” and “paying the rent,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “people of the countries fell their possessions” and “love with their country” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “possitive,” “petroit,” and “conclision” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of housing-related expressions and check spelling carefully. Prefer natural collocations, such as “feel a sense of ownership” and “feel secure in their homes,” rather than translating phrases word for word.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on simple statements and shows attempts to connect ideas, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Errors occur in verb forms and agreement, as in “many poor peoples are also live” and “the inspiration about patrotism is increase.” Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries are also problematic: “in the rent house” and “house.those countries” make the writing harder to read. Some longer sentences, such as the one beginning “If the hose is destroy,” contain several errors that obscure the intended meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses using patterns such as “because” and “although.” Check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation when editing.
