IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people argued that having a home is far more better than a rented one. It is because of multiple reasons. For instance, privacy issue, budget friendly and vast in accomodation. In this essay we will analyze the details why this is the case and specially about its impact on society.
People need seperate home because it provides more privacy. Individuals are free to move anywhere and can use any place. For example, shared or rented apartments suppress personal mobility, it also effect cohension among family members. Whereas, seperate home provide more space. People can design their home according to their need. Furthermore, it is budget friendly, instead of paying hefty amount every month in term of rents since, it is more convenient to have own house.
Admittedly, having a home is of paramount importance but in my stand point it is a negative situtation. Because to built more home more space is needed, which leads us toward deforestration. Deforestration means having less tress, less oxygen and, as a result it disturb the society. People ought to prefer shared apartments or rented ones since it occupies less space and provide good surronding without demaging natural environment.
To sum up, rented comodities are of more valuable than the personal one. Although personal home came with number of perks and privaliage but on the cost of environmental damage.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest privacy, space and cost as reasons for preferring ownership, then state that this is negative because of deforestation. However, the response only partially develops these points. The claim that owning a home is “budget friendly” is not explained, and the environmental argument assumes that home ownership necessarily leads to more construction without showing how this relates to the importance people place on ownership. Your position is present, but “in my stand point” is awkwardly expressed and the conclusion shifts to saying rented homes are “more valuable” without clearly restating the environmental reasoning. The response is also 24 words below the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop your ideas. Explain each reason and support your judgement more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your answer. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from privacy to family cohesion, space and cost without showing how these points connect. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Whereas,” and “Admittedly” are used, but some do not express the intended relationship accurately; “Whereas” introduces an additional benefit rather than a clear contrast. The conclusion also introduces a comparison between rented and personal homes rather than neatly summarising the argument. Group related points and use transitions that precisely show contrast, cause or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “privacy,” “personal mobility,” “deforestation,” and “natural environment,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “vast in accomodation,” “suppress personal mobility,” and “rented comodities.” Spelling errors—including “seperate,” “tress,” and “surronding”—also make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Some phrases appear to be chosen for formality but do not sound natural, for example “of paramount importance” and “on the cost of environmental damage.” Build a more reliable set of housing and environmental collocations, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both short statements and some attempts at longer structures, including “since it is more convenient to have own house” and the sentence beginning “Although personal home came with number of perks.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to follow. For example, “People need seperate home” lacks an article, while “seperate home provide more space” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Because to built more home more space is needed” has an incomplete construction and an incorrect verb form. Punctuation also creates problems in “every month in term of rents since,” where the clause boundaries are unclear. Practise accurate articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
