IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In few countries having personal home rather than renting one is very crucial for public. i believe this is a negative situation because if you owning a home all authorities we have like giving on rent and making own rules about house. while living on a rented house can cause to pay the renting amount payed at time and used less things in home, so owning a house is beneficial.
Some countries house owners are few stricts they dont allow renter to do such things in their home, if your a owner of a house you dont have to pay for house rent, you have many advantages you can visit any place of your place at every time dont have to ask someone, own parking and garden have your under you can give on rent or used by their self. Earn money by giving house on least to people monthly amount credited to account.
while, living on rented house have many problems like paying money for house, cant use any extra things without owner permission and issue for car parking if car was there then you have to pay extra for parking vehicle. If any guest will come you have to stay on your limit and use what you have cant use extra room or bathroom and stress about paying rent on time.
In conclusion, i think owning a house is far better than renting the house, for example you dont have to pay rent, enjoy side renting income of house, can make own rules and policy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear view that owning a home is preferable, and you mention relevant reasons such as avoiding rent, having more freedom to use the property, and earning income by renting it out. However, the response does not fully answer the question’s first part: it gives little explanation of why home ownership is especially important in some countries, beyond the practical advantages of owning. The position is also inconsistent: the opening calls the situation negative, but the conclusion says owning is “far better,” which suggests a positive view. Develop the cultural or social reasons behind the preference and state consistently whether the situation itself is positive or negative, then support that judgement with a clearer explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly separate advantages of ownership from problems with renting. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the second paragraph moves from restrictions on renters to ownership benefits and then rental income without clear links. Connectors such as “while” and “In conclusion” are used, but relationships between ideas are sometimes inaccurate or abrupt, and the opening’s negative judgement conflicts with the conclusion. Use a clearer sequence—explain why ownership is valued, then assess whether that preference is positive or negative—and use linking phrases to show comparison and cause rather than simply listing points.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “house owners,” “rent,” “permission,” “parking,” and “monthly amount,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes meaning difficult to follow. For example, “giving on rent,” “house on least,” and “enjoy side renting income” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “stricts” and “used less things” are also unclear. Repetition of “house,” “rent,” and “pay” further limits precision. Build a more accurate set of housing expressions and check whether each phrase is idiomatic, such as “renting out a property” and “rental income.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional idea beginning “if you owning a home,” but the range is limited and many sentences contain frequent errors that make the relationships between ideas hard to interpret. Examples include “if you owning” instead of a correctly formed conditional, “you dont have to pay for house rent” with missing articles, and “if any guest will come” with an unsuitable verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in the long opening sentence joined with “because” and “while.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add controlled clauses using “because,” “if,” and “although.” Check verb forms, articles, and punctuation when editing.
