IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Purchasing a home in some nations is more significant for some individuals than renting a house. I strongly think that it is because they want to be free and avoid useless responsabilities towards the landlord. In my opinion ,this is a vey positive experience for the majority.
Renting someones home is very difficult at times because of the stress that may be a person can feel like , how will i pay my rent at the end of this month. However ,this is a very negative feeling mean while ,in your own home that you bought you will never experience this particular type of stress.Forinstance i lived in both dormitory and in my parents home so i do also faced both situations.
Furthermore, another reason to stay in your own residence you boufht rather than to pay rent is to leave peacefully without bothering your neighbours and having flexible timetable .Forexample when leaving in a dormitory we had hours restrictions at night that is you need to come back home at arround 10pm.
To conclude, having your own residential property is the best based on my little experience and i think it is very positive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear opinion that owning a home is positive, and you offer relevant reasons, including avoiding rent-related stress and having more freedom over your schedule. However, the response only partially develops the task: the reasons why home ownership matters are not fully explained, and the personal examples about dormitory life and your parents’ home do not clearly show why people in some countries prioritise buying. The second part of the question is answered, but the positive judgement is asserted more than supported. The response is also 55 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each reason with a specific explanation or example, and address the question’s focus on why this preference occurs in some countries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas also follow a broadly logical order, moving from rent-related stress to freedom in one’s own home. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “To conclude” help signal this progression. However, connections within sentences are sometimes awkward or unclear, as in “because of the stress that may be a person can feel like,” and “For instance” introduces an example that is not fully connected to the point. Some transitions, including “However” and “meanwhile,” are used mechanically rather than to show a precise relationship. To improve, make the link between each reason and its example explicit, and use referencing such as “this financial pressure” to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “rent,” “landlord,” “residence,” “neighbours” and “restrictions.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “flexible timetable” and “residential property.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, for example “useless responsibilities,” “leave peacefully” and “having a flexible timetable.” Spelling errors such as “responsabilities,” “boufht” and “arround” also reduce accuracy. These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build a bank of natural phrases for housing and financial security, and check spelling and collocations carefully when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a comparison between renting and owning. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur frequently and some sentences are difficult to follow. For example, “because of the stress that may be a person can feel like” combines structures incorrectly, while “i do also faced both situations” has problems with auxiliary use and verb form. There are also issues with articles, possessives and sentence boundaries, as in “Renting someones home” and “Forinstance i lived.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add a subordinate clause; proofread for past-tense forms, apostrophes, capital letters and commas.
