IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that owning a house is more beneficial for people instead of the rent one. In my opinion both has its own circumstances, but I believe its a positive case because owning a house is the most significant thing for a person who is the only breadwinner in his family, it reduces the stress of monthly rent, yearly contract and making property will be an asset for future.
One major reason why I consider this a positive situation is that having a ownership of home may reduce the stress of rents and shifting yearly basis at the end of contract. For instance, a person who is the breadearner in his family has to manage money for rent on the month end and if the contract will end so, he has to search a new house and make an arrangements to shift there. As a result, this activity makes him stressful and anxious, also, it makes pressure on him that will effects his health.
Another major reason is that the economic condition is going to worst worldwide so, its difficult to make an asset nowadays. Making a property is the best asset for today world because its difficult to manage the money along with making some assets. For example, a man has a family of four and he has two children, one is school going and the other one is infant, then the expenditures of his children are more and its impossible to bear all alone. Therefore, the person is unable to manage things properly along with having some savings and making an assets.
In conclusion, I believe that people have their own house is a positive situation because it makes the person stress free and having an asset will be beneficial for his family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain why home ownership matters, especially by reducing rent-related stress and providing an asset, and you clearly judge it to be positive. The examples about a breadwinner facing a move at the end of a rental contract and a family managing children’s expenses are relevant. However, the explanation of why ownership is important in some countries is not fully developed, and the second body paragraph shifts toward the difficulty of saving for property rather than clearly explaining why people value owning a home. Develop this link more explicitly—for example, by explaining security, stability, or cultural expectations—and extend each example to show how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Phrases such as “One major reason,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections between ideas are unclear or mechanical. In the second body paragraph, the move from worsening economic conditions to property as an asset, then to children’s expenses, does not clearly show why home ownership is especially important. Some sentences also contain several linked points, making the progression harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and explain the relationship between each example and its main claim; vary linking expressions and use pronouns with precise references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “monthly rent,” “contract,” “asset,” “expenditures,” and “savings,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as “breadwinner” and “economical condition.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the rent one,” “having a ownership,” “shifting yearly basis,” and “make an assets.” Spelling errors such as “breadearner” also reduce accuracy. Build a reliable set of phrases for housing and financial security, and check whether nouns are countable and whether verbs naturally combine with them. More precise wording would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, as in “if the contract will end” and “As a result, this activity makes him stressful.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction remain. For example, “both has” should use a plural verb, while “a person who is the only breadwinner” is followed by a long sentence whose clauses are not clearly controlled. In “the expenditures of his children are more,” the comparison is grammatically incomplete. Practise building complex sentences with accurate clause patterns, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms during revision. Clearer sentence boundaries would also improve control.
