IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In numbers of countries own home is beneficial compare to rent home for people because day by day inflation is rising.I think it is positive situation because own home is one type of your property not just your living place.the narrative ahead will articulate my view point before riching personal conclusion.
according to my viewpoint own home is positive development because if you have a your own home,so you have dont give money in rent for every month and these money also you invest in other line.At present time inflation is rising day by day so your own home price is increase in future. If you have a not your own home and you have live in rent home so,its have numbers of drawbacks like every month rent is rising and owner instructions are follow. its all drawbacks

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You state a clear view that owning a home is positive, and you give relevant reasons: avoiding monthly rent and benefiting if property prices rise. You also mention drawbacks of renting, such as rising rent and having to follow the owner’s instructions. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it gives little explanation of why home ownership is especially important in some countries, and the reasons are asserted rather than developed with examples or explanation. The conclusion is not completed, and the response is substantially below the required minimum length, leaving important parts of the discussion undeveloped. To improve, explain the cultural or financial reasons behind this preference, expand each point, and finish with a clear conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening states your position, followed by a paragraph giving reasons and contrasting renting with ownership. The ideas are generally related to the topic, and phrases such as “because” and “so” show some effort to connect them. However, there is no clear overall progression from explaining why people value ownership to evaluating whether this is positive or negative. The opening’s reference to a “narrative” does not guide the reader, and the final phrase “its all drawbacks” leaves the discussion abruptly unfinished. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the causes, your evaluation, and the conclusion, and connect each point with clear references rather than relying repeatedly on “so.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “inflation,” “rent,” “property,” and “drawbacks,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to follow. For example, “In numbers of countries” does not clearly express “in many countries,” while “invest in other line” is an unclear way to describe using money elsewhere. “Owner instructions” and “home price is increase” also show difficulty selecting natural collocations and forms. Build a wider set of housing-related expressions and check how words combine in context; precise phrases such as “monthly rental payments” and “property values may rise” would make your points clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “because” and “if,” and the basic message is usually understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in clauses, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “if you have a your own home,” “you have dont give money,” and “your own home price is increase.” The sentence beginning “If you have a not your own home” is also difficult to follow because its clause structure is faulty. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including the lowercase start “according to my viewpoint” and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add conditional clauses and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
