IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In various countries owning a house rather than renting is quite vital for people. This might be a case of financial means and savings. I strongly believe this is a good circumstance.
In many parts of the world most of the people want to own a house rather than renting one because they do not want to spend a large portion of their incomes for paying the rent to the houses, hostels, apartments and flats. Most of the people want to spend their money for a quality life so they own a house instrad of renting one. They want to spend more on their children's health, studies and everyday needs. If the people rent a house they have to pay the rent monthly that create a mental pressure on them so they are more intrested to buy a house that is great lifetime investment. People want to save more money for their children's future that might be a huge case that people buy their own house so they do not have to pay monthly for the rents of their shelter.
i strongly believe that buying own house is a Positive factor. Buying own house can help or facilitate us in various ways. Owners do not have to think and take pressure about the monthly rents they can invest more in their studies, jobs, business and children. One more and very important think is that owners do not have to switch their families in many cases like if landlord wants to sale their place or increasing the rent or children got admissions in far institues anything like that. For me owning a home is positive lifetime investment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people want to avoid recurring rent payments and save for their children, and you clearly state that home ownership is positive. These ideas are relevant, and the examples about landlords raising rent or selling a property help explain the benefits of owning. However, the reasons for why ownership is important are not equally developed. The financial explanation is repeated several times, while the wider significance of owning a home—for example, security, independence, or cultural expectations—is not explored. Your position is clear, but some points would be more convincing if explained with specific cause-and-effect reasoning rather than restated. Develop each main reason distinctly and support it with a fuller explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why people prefer ownership, and a paragraph giving your opinion. The ideas are generally relevant and the reader can follow the overall argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is weakened by repetition, particularly the repeated point that owners avoid monthly rent and can save money. Linking phrases such as “One more and very important think” are awkward, and several ideas are joined into long sentences without clear punctuation, making their relationships less easy to follow. Use topic sentences to signal each distinct reason, group related examples together, and vary linking devices. Clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing would make the organisation feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “lifetime investment,” “monthly rents,” and “mental pressure.” There are also attempts to express ideas beyond basic statements, such as describing the effect of a landlord selling or increasing rent. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “spend their money for a quality life,” “buying own house,” and “switch their families” do not sound natural in this context. Spelling errors such as “instrad,” “intrested,” and “institues” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of housing and financial vocabulary, and check common word partnerships and spelling so your meaning is expressed more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If the people rent a house…” and clauses explaining possible reasons. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “that create a mental pressure” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “owners do not have to think and take pressure about the monthly rents” has an unclear grammatical construction. Articles and noun forms are also inconsistent in phrases such as “buying own house” and “the rents of their shelter.” Several long sentences need clearer punctuation to separate clauses. Aim for accurate basic sentence patterns first, then use complex clauses with careful agreement, articles, and punctuation.
