IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
i agree this statement becuase if you move to the other country for work or study you need rent house apartment or any room so today expensive so very one is not afford the expensive home own so that why the purchase renyt house rather then own house.
if i talk about the ranting house is more favourable becuase you take the facilities like gaming calb or water and sui gass facilities i talk about in sense were country are not develope becuase you need more money for develop your own home like you need lot of investment firstly you purchase a land then you build or customize your own house own your choice then you install electricity gas meter and so on expense on your own which is no favouable today.
if we talk about rented house which is fesible today you just pay th rent month which price is small and you just spend or saving when you stay at rented house.
but there are also some drawback renting house like you are not permanent stay in house you are not share you are address because when you move to other city or other rented house your documents lost . the major drawback is if you live on tje upper story house on rent house . you are grow your vegetable in your country off couse you grow in pot but big tree or vegetable you are not grow in rent house summary is postive impact of rent house

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to discuss why people may prefer owning a home and whether this is positive or negative, but it does not clearly answer the first part of the question. Most of the essay argues that renting is more practical, citing lower monthly costs and included facilities, rather than explaining why home ownership is important in some countries. The final statement, “summary is postive impact of rent house,” gives a position, but it conflicts with the task’s focus and is not supported by a clear comparison of ownership’s benefits and drawbacks. Some relevant points appear, such as the investment needed to build a home and the lack of permanence when renting, but these are difficult to follow and remain undeveloped. Address both questions directly and explain each reason with a clear example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: it moves from an opening opinion to discussion of renting, then mentions drawbacks and ends with a summary. Connectors such as “if we talk about” and “but” show an effort to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the opening shifts between owning and renting, and the paragraphs do not clearly separate reasons for home ownership from the writer’s evaluation. Several ideas are joined in long, loosely connected sentences, while references such as “which” and “you” are not always clear. Use a focused paragraph for each part of the question, begin each with a clear main point, and link supporting details explicitly to that point.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant housing terms, including “rent,” “purchase,” “investment,” “land,” “electricity,” and “gas,” so the general topic is identifiable. It also attempts to express evaluation with words such as “favourable” and “drawback.” However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make some ideas hard to understand, for example “fesible,” “calb,” and “sui gass.” Phrases such as “you are not share you are address” do not communicate the intended point clearly. Build a more accurate range of housing vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For instance, use “monthly rent,” “property ownership,” and “housing costs” in appropriate contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing relies mainly on simple clauses, with occasional attempts to connect ideas using “because,” “if,” and “which.” These attempts show some effort to form longer sentences, but control is weak and errors frequently obscure meaning. Examples include “you need rent house apartment,” “you just pay th rent month,” and “you are grow your vegetable.” Verb forms, articles, sentence boundaries, and agreement are often inaccurate, and punctuation is limited, producing run-on sentences. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then combine them accurately with subordinate clauses. For example: “Renting can be cheaper because tenants pay monthly rather than investing in land and construction.” Careful proofreading for verb forms and sentence boundaries would improve clarity.
