IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Owning a home in many countries for people is essential rather than renting one.I believe this is a positive development will give my reasons with some relevant examples.
To begin with, due to consistent rise in economy, rents are increasing considerably, so individuals should have a house or flat to live. It it will make easy for people who belong to middle class and low income families, and have to provide their families, as well as pay other utility bills such as water gas and electricity.
I believe that it is a positive development from many aspects. Families can renovate and decorate their homes according to thier interest, without being stressed about the fact that thier money will go to waste if they have to locate to another accomodation, which can happen to a person is living in a rented house. Secondly, Individuals can easily call their friends and families and celebrate thier occations such as birthday parties and anniversaries at any day and time without being tensed about the landlord. Furthermore, if an an individual loses a job, he has safety that they have a roof to live and doesn't have to pay the rent at the end of month. For instance, recently my friend quit his job but he doesn't have the tension that he had to pay the rent, and remained free of stress and anxiety.
To conclude, I personally agree with the satement and believe that it is positive development that owning a house can help individual to stay safe from many problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that rising rents make ownership important, and you clearly state that you see it as positive. Your supporting points about decorating a home, hosting celebrations and having housing security after job loss are relevant. However, the reasons why ownership is especially important in some countries are not explored in much depth, and the claim that owners do not have to pay rent is not fully explained in terms of the costs and responsibilities of owning a home. The personal example is relevant but brief. Develop the causes and consequences more fully, and make the distinction between owning and renting clearer, to provide a more complete response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Secondly” and “Furthermore” help signal the points, and the reader can generally follow your position. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical: several benefits are listed in succession rather than grouped and developed, and the first body paragraph shifts from rising rents to the needs of lower-income families without clearly connecting the ideas. Some references, such as “It” at the start of the second sentence, are unclear. Organise related benefits into a clearer sequence and use linking and referencing that explicitly show how each point supports your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “rents,” “utility bills,” “landlord,” and “roof.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “safety” and “stress and anxiety.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “consistent rise in economy” does not clearly express the intended cause, and “locate to another accomodation” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors such as “thier,” “occations” and “satement” are noticeable, while repeated use of “positive development” and “tension” limits variety. Build a more precise range of housing-related expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “if an individual loses a job” and a clause explaining that families can decorate their homes. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and control are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “I believe this is a positive development will give my reasons” joins ideas without a correct grammatical link, while “It it will make easy” has faulty structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “an an individual” and “doesn't have to pay the rent.” Review sentence boundaries and practise forming accurate complex sentences with subordinate clauses; proofreading for repeated words and punctuation will also help.
