IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

On the media often listen news about the importace of property at main city. The individuals of certain nations prefer its own houses in place of renting one.I argue that these kind of citizen have a good concerns beause they own his house and don,t like to pay every single month.

Firstly, there is lot of financial crisis in many countries and the persons life is so difficult to survive. They don,t have enough money to fulfill his daily desires like food, house rent and other living things. For instance, most of the community of Africa lives under the open sky and don,t have any house.Everyone want to ask the importance of own houses from these persons.Due to these conditions, its play various lesser effects onto society.

Secondly, most of the young people,s prefer their own house instead of paying every month because they feel relaxed and comfortable with that.Although it,s crucial for those who live freely and don,t need any involvement into his life. From my perspective, I completely agree with that and its play a significance role in every citizen life. You know sometimes owners make insult of the rental family due to late payments in certain condition . To illustrate about the europe, most of the citizens have their own houses and then they prevent from any extra monthly payments.

To Sum Up,Having own home in the present day is beneficial and good effects on our lifes and feel comfortable with that. If the government should support to poor young people,s in making homes, it can be positive step toward the public requirements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value ownership because it avoids monthly rent and can provide comfort, and you indicate that you see this as positive. However, the explanation of why ownership matters is only partly developed. The opening focuses on financial hardship and people lacking housing, which does not clearly explain why owning a home is especially important compared with renting. The examples about Africa and Europe are broad and are not clearly connected to the argument. Your position is present in “I completely agree,” but it would be clearer to state directly whether this trend is positive or negative and explain the benefits and any drawbacks. Develop fewer ideas with specific, relevant support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “To Sum Up” help signal the structure. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear: the first body paragraph moves from financial hardship to homelessness and then to effects on society without explaining the links. Some connections are also difficult to follow, such as the contrast introduced by “Although” in the second paragraph, which does not lead to a complete contrasting idea. References such as “these conditions” and “that” are not always precise. To improve, give each paragraph one clear main point, explain it in a logical sequence, and use linking expressions only when their relationship between ideas is accurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “property,” “renting,” “monthly payments,” and “comfortable,” so the reader can identify the subject of the essay. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “good concerns” does not express a clear reason, “living things” is too vague for household expenses, and “lesser effects onto society” is difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “importace” and “lifes.” Build a more precise set of phrases for housing, financial security and personal independence, and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a concession beginning “Although.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms, sometimes making the reader work to understand the point. Examples include “there is lot of financial crisis,” “Everyone want,” and “its play various lesser effects.” The sentence beginning “Although it’s crucial” is incomplete, while “the persons life is so difficult to survive” has an unclear grammatical structure. Improve accuracy by checking subject–verb agreement, using complete clauses, and practising clear sentence patterns before adding more complex constructions.
