IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some countries, buying house is a essential because it maintains stability. Homeownership helps a person to settle at a place and can start a carrier. In my opinion i feel it is a positive situation, helps in settlement for long time and maintaining relation with neighborhood.
One major reason a people prioritize owing a house in the sense of stability it provides. Homeowners do not have to worry about the tantrums of landlords of increasing sudden rent. Taking decision of buying house is a long term investment, as its value increases over time. Parents encourage their child to buy house on its own to become independent and for personal security. An individual also feels a personal achievement after owing a house.
I believe on a positive note that buying house give both emotional and financial benefits. Living in a rented house leads to give huge amount of rent every month, instead buying house can be an investment, rather giving rent to landlord. Also, after completing all mortgage a person just have to spent money on small house related things. It is also preferable, for staying years in a house, creates an emotional environment and which maintains neighborhood.
However, there are some negative aspects also, for instance, a person bought house can be go in debt if not capable of paying the mortgage. Many individuals also suppress one's desire like travel and educational expense, to buy a house. Nowadays, prices are getting increases so it is hard for youngsters to buy. Staying in rented house creates not a problem, and flexible to locate anywhere.
In conclusion, owing a house stems from financial security, stability and social expectations. While, giving pressure to purchase one can be harmful. It is a positive aspiration for a person who is financial capable for owing a house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it gives reasons for the importance of home ownership, including stability, investment, independence and social expectations, and states that it is generally positive. The position is also qualified in the conclusion, where you note that buying can be harmful when people are under financial pressure. These are relevant ideas, but some are more fully explained than others. For example, the discussion of rent and mortgage costs is developed, while the claim that ownership helps people “start a carrier” is not explained, and the point about neighborhood relationships could use a clearer link to owning rather than renting. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and make the positive judgement consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs explaining reasons and benefits, a paragraph acknowledging disadvantages, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a coherent route through the response. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “I believe on a positive note” is an awkward transition, and “Also, after completing all mortgage” does not connect smoothly to the preceding comparison. The contrast paragraph is relevant, but its relationship to your overall positive position could be signposted more explicitly. Use linking phrases selectively and make sure each paragraph has one clear focus; within paragraphs, connect each supporting point to the main claim rather than listing several benefits in sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “stability,” “long term investment,” “mortgage,” “financial security,” and “emotional environment.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and word forms sometimes make the meaning less natural: “tantrums of landlords,” “owing a house,” “prices are getting increases,” and “suppress one's desire” do not express the intended ideas precisely. Spelling and word-form errors such as “carrier” for “career” also reduce control. Aim for natural collocations and check whether a word fits its context—for example, landlords may “raise the rent,” while people “own” a home. This greater precision would make your vocabulary more flexible and clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“if not capable of paying the mortgage”) and a contrast between renting and buying. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing or incorrect articles in “buying house” and “a essential,” subject–verb agreement in “buying house give,” and faulty verb patterns in “can be go in debt” and “have to spent.” The opening sentence also contains an incomplete construction: “In my opinion i feel it is a positive situation, helps…” Practise complete sentence structures, article use, agreement and verb forms, and proofread punctuation and capitalisation. More accurate control of these patterns would make the argument easier to follow.
