IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
As far as this topic is concerned, I would like to say that the impact of Owning the home rather then renting one has always been debatable and has now become more controversial, with many people claiming that own a home. while other believe that rent one. The substanial influence of this trend has sparked controversy over its potential impact in recent years. From my prespective, own a home become more rational. This essay will further eloborate on my views regarding owning a home rather than renting one and will lead to a logical conclusion.
Analyzing the statement further, the primary reason behind owning a home is beneficial for people. if they have their own home they can live a easier life. because they will not have any stress regarding renting. because we can pay rent after a month. Nowadays people could'nt afford because everything is expensive. For Example i recently bought my home and it made my life easier.
Moving further,it is a pertinent to mention that some people think renting one is beneficial. because some people can't afford to buy a home. because in pakistan, many people face financial issues so they prefer renting one. because in this way they can live their lifestyle according to their needs. but they faced many problems and they spent most of their money on rent. However, from my prespective, if people easily afford to buy a home. they buy. but who does not afford they just rent out the home.
To encapsulate, I would like conclude that owning a home is beneficial because you can live a lifestyle without stress. and who do not afford to buy the home they prefer renting one but that people lived a difficult lifestyle. I believe that government should take step and help poor people who don't afford their home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that owning a home reduces the stress of paying rent, and you acknowledge that people with financial difficulties may need to rent. Your view that ownership is preferable is present, but it is not consistently or clearly explained; the opening is difficult to follow, and the conclusion introduces government support without developing this idea. The reasons also remain general. For example, “they can live a easier life” does not explain what practical or financial benefits ownership brings, while the personal example is not extended. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly from the beginning and develop each reason with a specific explanation or relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly separate reasons for owning and renting. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and linking words are repetitive or used inaccurately. Several sentences begin with “because,” creating fragments rather than clear links, while “Moving further” does not show a precise relationship between the ideas. The opening also shifts between ownership and renting without establishing a clear line of argument. Improve cohesion by organising each paragraph around one main point, then explaining and illustrating it, and use pronouns and connectors only when their references and relationships are clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “financial issues,” “afford,” “stress” and “lifestyle,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “owning the home,” “rent one,” and “the substanial influence of this trend,” which sound unnatural or do not express a clear idea in context. Spelling errors such as “prespective,” “eloborate” and “substanial” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for housing costs and security, and check spelling and collocations when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. For instance, “if they have their own home they can live a easier life” has an article error and lacks punctuation, while “some people think renting one is beneficial. because…” incorrectly separates a dependent clause. Verb forms and agreement are also problematic in “own a home become more rational” and “that people lived a difficult lifestyle.” Sentence boundaries and capitalisation need attention throughout. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, tense, agreement and punctuation. More accurate control of these basic patterns will make your ideas easier to follow.
