IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some countries, many individuals argue that owning a home is crutial rather than living in a rented house. The increase of the renting and problems related to space and privacy may be the main reasons of this believe. In my perspective it seems a positive situation as it helps to be more stress-free and successful and innovative.
Today , the prices of house renting are in increase day after day especially of homes near to people's work. This explain why a lot of people believe that owing a home will decrease not only their depences as thier is no more rent to pay but also it will enable them to afford good studies for their children or even to have enough money to travel. Moreover, most of rented home are generally in apartment blocks, consiquently houses are small and with no good isolation while in your personal house it is more spacious , it can be decorated the way people want and also more private .
In my perspective , having you own home will affect someon's life positivly. People living in their private home tend to be happier and stress-free as they don't have an overwhelming monthly rent to be paid and don't fear that the landlord increase the price. Also their money is then used for leisure activities and travelling. Furthemore, people are able to focus more on their carrier and success and be more innovative . In other words ,having your own home means having you personal space ,decorated the way you want ,it will be more spacious propably with garden even small one ,all these factors help people to think out of the box and work without distraction .For instance, recent surveys in Jpan showed that most of manager and successfull people live in their personal home.
To conclude , the intrest of owning a home rather then living in a rented one increased due to the overwhelming rent and lack of privacy .In my view, it affect positively people's life by making them less stresse and more successful .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest rising rental costs and limited privacy or space as reasons for preferring ownership, and you clearly judge this preference to be positive. The discussion is relevant, with supporting points about financial freedom, children’s education, leisure and concentration. However, some ideas are asserted more than explained. For example, the link between owning a home and becoming “more innovative” is not fully established, and the survey about managers in Japan is presented without detail or explanation of how it supports the claim. The reasons for the preference are clearer than the broader benefits you attribute to ownership. Develop each main point with a more precise explanation or example to make the response more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and your opinion, and a conclusion. The reader can follow the main progression, and signposting such as “Moreover,” “Also” and “To conclude” helps show relationships between points. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or the references are unclear. The second paragraph moves from rent costs to children’s studies and travel, then to privacy and space, without clearly separating or prioritising these ideas. The long sentence beginning “In other words” also combines several points and is difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences, divide crowded sentences, and make links between claims explicit rather than relying mainly on transition words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to housing and its effects, including “overwhelming monthly rent,” “privacy,” “leisure activities” and “focus more on their career.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an effort to be specific. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “crutial,” “believe” where “belief” is needed, “depences,” “consquently” and “successfull.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “prices of house renting are in increase” and “good isolation.” These issues reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “rental costs are rising” and “sound insulation,” before using less familiar expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and attempts at complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “while” and “that,” so there is some variety in structure. The overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms occur across the response. For example, “This explain why” needs subject–verb agreement, while “most of rented home are” has problems with articles and plural agreement. In “having you own home,” the possessive form is incorrect, and several sentences run together or use commas where a full stop would improve control. These errors are more noticeable in longer sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “In other words.” Practise checking agreement, articles, possessives and sentence boundaries, and aim to make complex sentences accurate before adding further clauses.
