IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Most people in this world may heard from their parents or grandparents that: "you must have to have you own piece of land, this is the only thing that matters to bring finance and physicological safe".
In fact in some countries they have this culture to own their on houses instead of rent a house for a long-term mostly if you are someone that have family, a wife or husband and kids.
Although this is true for most people, some of others doesn't have this thoughts, they prefers spend their money travelling around the world and moving to another country or city from time to time. However, even those kind of people, like the idea to have a small apartament in their origin city just in case of need to came back for any reason, this is the case of one friend of mine.
Giving a step back, I know that so many people work a lot and they can't save enough money to buy a house or pay for the mortagage. Despite of this fact, I would like to go in the people who think that own a house matter more than anything else, I can truly see their points. After I get married, I started to think about my family, and my conclusion was that, in case of I pass away, my wife need to have a place to live without be worried about pay rent. So, if you're the person responsible for your family, you must have to listen your parents and buy a house for your physicological and family safety.
Finally, in my opinion, buy your own house, even if is a small one, it is the best decision that you can ever make. As my mom use to say: "Whoever that buy land, never get wrong".

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that home ownership offers financial and family security, and you clearly regard it as positive. The example of wanting your wife to have somewhere to live if you die gives your position a personal, relevant basis. However, the reasons why ownership is especially important in some countries are only partly explained; the response refers to family culture and parental advice but does not develop why these beliefs are widespread. The discussion of people who prefer travelling is relevant, yet it is not fully connected to the main argument. To strengthen the response, explain the social or economic reasons behind the preference and develop each supporting point with a clearer explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall structure, moving from the cultural belief in ownership to contrasting preferences, then to your personal reasoning and conclusion. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Despite of this fact,” and “Finally” signal relationships between ideas. At times, though, progression is less clear: “Giving a step back” does not clearly introduce the point that follows, and the paragraph about travellers shifts quickly to a friend’s apartment without explaining how this supports the discussion. Some links also feel formulaic or do not express the intended relationship precisely. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s purpose, and make references such as “this fact” explicit so readers can follow the argument more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including terms connected with housing and security, such as “mortgage,” “rent,” and “family safety.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, for example “piece of land” and “responsible for your family.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “physicological,” “apartament,” and “mortagage.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “bring finance,” “have this culture,” and “go in the people who think.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your overall position, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Focus on standard collocations and check spelling, especially for key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “in case I pass away” and contrast clauses beginning with “Although” and “However.” This shows some range, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “Most people … may heard” needs a past participle, while “some of others doesn't have” has an agreement problem. In “my wife need to have a place … without be worried,” the verb forms are not controlled. The opening quotation also creates an awkward sentence structure. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then check verb forms and agreement when combining ideas into longer sentences.
