In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this essay i will discuss that in some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation? In the end i will give my opinion.
Firstly, In many countries people rent houses or appartent because its quite affordable for middle class people who earn less but in some countries rents are to high to afford. In some cases people rent home for their continuos transfer because of their jobs or studies they have to change cities. Some students rent appartments for their studies in another city and they live alone there.
Moreover, Renting houses some times cause trouble to people when its time to shift again to any other house or appartment. When owner askes them to leave the if they are young then its well and good but if they are old or aged then it can be hard for them to keep shifting their furniture and other household items. This activity wastes time and money both because they have to rent a truck everytime.Owning a house is a cure to this problem no worries to change appartments or look for home and shifting.
Finally, I believe that renting home or appartment is a positive situation because renting homes are not cheap and in some countries rents are higher than our expectations.A guy with a single job wont be able to buy a house as they are quite expensive. So thats why i prefer renting a house than owning one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You attempt to address both questions: you mention reasons people may rent, such as affordability and moving for work or study, and you state that renting is positive because buying a home can be expensive. However, the response does not clearly explain why owning a home is especially important in some countries; much of the discussion instead describes renting. Your position also shifts: the introduction promises an opinion, while the final paragraph supports renting without directly weighing the importance of home ownership. Ideas such as the security of owning a home are only briefly touched on. The response is 226 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 31 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the reasons and your evaluation more fully, and ensure the essay meets the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “Finally” help identify the stages of the essay. The examples about students moving for study and older people shifting homes also give some local progression. However, the overall line of argument is not consistently clear: the first paragraph discusses renting rather than explaining why home ownership matters, and the final opinion is not well connected to the preceding point that owning a home solves the problem of moving. Some links are mechanical, and several ideas run together, particularly in the paragraph about shifting and its costs. Use each paragraph to develop one clear point, connect examples explicitly to the question, and make the relationship between your reasons and final position easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “rent,” “owning a house,” “affordable,” and “household items,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially the repeated use of “house,” “rent,” and “appartment,” and some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “continuos transfer,” “shift again to any other house,” and “a cure to this problem.” Spelling errors, including “appartent,” “askes,” and “everytime,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider range of precise housing-related language and check spelling and collocations. For example, distinguish between “home ownership,” “rental costs,” and “residential mobility” rather than relying on the same basic words throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, for example, “Some students rent appartments for their studies in another city and they live alone there.” However, the range remains limited, and longer sentences are often difficult to control. Errors include missing or incorrect articles and agreement in “renting homes are not cheap,” the incomplete construction “When owner askes them to leave the if they are young,” and punctuation problems where sentences run together, as in “...to afford. In some cases...” Capitalisation is also inconsistent, such as “Firstly, In.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate sentence boundaries, articles, and subject–verb agreement, then use a few controlled complex sentences to explain cause and effect.
