IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
These days an increasing number of people live in own house. In certain nations renting one less than owing a home is very success for people. That is positive situation for people. My preference is justified in upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.
In some countries people choose live in own house rather than rent house. Beacuse when thay live in paid house after thay can follow their particular rules. That's why people consider personal house for living. When they live privet house, they have all of freedom. For example, One of my school friend lived in paid house. So house owner said you must lock the gate at 10'o clock. After you should not went out from home. As a result, he feeled stress and change their home. Moreover he could change three house in one year.
Furthermore, owned property is important however it is cheep than other. That,s why in india people make own house after they buy other thing. Firstly, they inversted in gold after some year they selled gold and buy thier house. In addtion, when we live in other house. We should pay high of number money. As example, people bought own properties after they bought house. And a floor give for rent. As a result, they complete their loan for rental money.
In conclusion, own house important for certain countries. Because it was one types of invest of money althogh, they do not pay rent for living. That effect make positive situation for my opinion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value owning a home because it gives them freedom from a landlord’s rules, and you present ownership as positive because it can be an investment and avoid rent. The example of your friend’s restrictions helps illustrate the first reason. However, the position is not consistently clear: the opening says ownership is “very success,” while the conclusion calls it positive, and the reasons are only partly explained. The claim that owning property is “cheep than other” is unclear, and the investment example needs a clearer link to why home ownership matters. Explain each reason more fully and make your positive judgement explicit from the introduction onward.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs also broadly separate the reasons: personal freedom first, then financial benefits. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and several linking expressions do not show the intended relationship clearly. For example, “Furthermore, owned property is important however it is cheep than other” combines ideas without a clear connection, while “As example” introduces a point that is hard to interpret. The conclusion repeats the main view but does not bring the reasons together. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and choose fewer, more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “rent,” “personal house,” “property,” “loan” and “invest,” so the reader can identify the main subject and reasons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear, such as “very success,” “paid house,” “high of number money” and “a floor give for rent.” Spelling errors, including “Beacuse,” “privet” and “inversted,” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common housing collocations and check word forms and spelling. More precise expressions would help you explain the financial argument and distinguish clearly between renting a home, owning one and letting part of it to tenants.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause beginning “Because” and an example introduced with “For example.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and verb forms frequently make the reader work to understand the message. Examples include “people choose live,” “after thay can follow,” “he feeled stress,” and “they selled gold and buy thier house.” Articles, agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention; for instance, “That is positive situation” lacks an article, and the final paragraph contains a sentence fragment beginning “Because.” Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking tense consistency and punctuation.
