IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some countries buying their own house rather then renting one is more essential for people. I think this is negative development because a house can create a financial problem and freedom take important life choice's
There are several reasons why people want their own house. Firstly, they do not want to pay rent every month because it can be expensive. Secondly, having their own home give people peace of mind because they do not have to worry about a landlord asking them to leave. Moreover, some people believe that owning a house is an important achievement and helps them provide a secure future for their families
In my opinion, this is negative development most of the people's want to buy a house because they secure for its future to paying a huge amount of rent So, they lend some money through the bank or finance it is more expensive for user.Another reasons behind that to buy a house they do not afford them or sometime they feel pressure. For instance, young generation prefer renting homes instead of owning home because they save the money or started business.Furthermore, rental option is also good for the students who lived in another city for work or educational purpose.
In conclusion, any countries bought a home is rather than renting one is very important for people. From my perspectives, this is negative development to buy their own home, people should choose either they lived in rental home or bought them it is depend on their financial stability or security.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for home ownership, including avoiding monthly rent and gaining security from a landlord, and you state that you see this as negative. However, the negative position is not consistently explained: the claim that buying creates financial problems is relevant, but the discussion shifts to renting’s benefits for young people and students without clearly connecting these examples to the overall judgement. Several ideas remain under-developed, and the conclusion mostly repeats your view rather than resolving the argument. The response is also 242 words, eight words below the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the financial and personal consequences more fully and make the link between each example and your position explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph giving reasons for ownership, a paragraph presenting your view, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Moreover,” and “For instance” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is uneven: the third paragraph combines borrowing costs, pressure, young people’s choices, and students’ needs without a clear sequence, while the conclusion introduces a choice between renting and buying that is not fully developed. Some links are mechanical, and punctuation spacing makes transitions harder to follow. Organise the argument into clearer stages—for example, reasons for ownership, then why prioritising it can be harmful—and use references and linking phrases that make each point’s connection clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “rent,” “landlord,” “peace of mind,” “secure future,” and “financial stability.” These expressions show an attempt to discuss both practical and emotional reasons for owning a home. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts of the argument difficult to interpret, such as “freedom take important life choice’s,” “secure for its future,” and “finance it is more expensive for user.” There are also errors in forms such as “another reasons” and “owning home.” Build a more precise set of housing and finance expressions, and check that each phrase expresses the intended relationship clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and an example introduced by “For instance.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “having their own home give people” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “they secure for its future to paying” does not form a clear grammatical clause. The opening sentence also joins ideas without a complete, well-formed structure, and the final sentence contains several clauses without clear boundaries. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then extend them with one clearly controlled subordinate clause; also check apostrophes, commas, and sentence endings.
