IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern era, due to an increasing trend of living in isolation, it has become a fundamental part of individual lives to have their private house or living apartments. So, in this regard some countries believe that owning a home rather renting one is very essential for people. According to my opinion, it is a possitive trend to have their own houses rather than renting property. Because due to have own proprty individuals can enjoy their personal life.

There are several advantages of having own property like it provides peace for living without any scare of fares. Additionally, it provides a large opportunity to decorate your houses according to their wish. Furthermore, it saves your all luxury items from destruction during migration from one place to another place. For instance, If families have their own property and when a suddenly an event take place in their family, people can easily manage that function in their houses without any restrictions from owner of the house. Because its their property, and they can do all sorts of things according to their wish. So, its necessary to have their own property.

Following the contentious debate, owning house also cause to release a stress. For example, if any individual living in a rented house he faces a lot of difficulties during staying there and he also have to follow the instructions by owner of house and he have to pay a rent in proper time But if he have his own house rather than living in rented house, he is totally free from all these anxities and he can enjoy his life by all facilities nearby to their home.

In conclusion, countries owning a home rather than renting one is necessary because it provides many feasibilities to person, like happiness and also release stress from fares as well as others. So, i totally agree to have a own house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear positive view of home ownership and offer relevant reasons, including greater freedom to decorate, avoiding rent-related pressure, and having space to host family events. However, the task asks both why ownership is especially important in some countries and whether this is positive or negative. Your response mainly lists benefits to individuals; it does not explain the country-specific reasons behind this preference, such as cultural expectations or housing security. Some points are also unclear or insufficiently developed—for example, the claim that ownership protects luxury items during migration is not fully explained. The position is stated, but the discussion addresses the task only partially. The response meets the required length; nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas are generally grouped by topic, and examples such as hosting a family event help illustrate the benefits of ownership. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The first body paragraph moves from peace and decorating to protecting possessions and then hosting an event, without clearly connecting these points. Linking phrases such as “Additionally,” “Furthermore,” and “So” are repeated or used mechanically, while “Following the contentious debate” does not clearly connect to the preceding paragraph. Improve cohesion by organising each paragraph around one main reason and using clearer references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to housing and personal security, including “owning a home,” “rented house,” “restrictions,” and “facilities.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the argument unclear. For example, “without any scare of fares” appears to mean freedom from rent or housing costs, while “release a stress” and “many feasibilities” are not natural expressions in this context. Spelling errors such as “possitive,” “proprty,” and “anxities” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise housing-related terms and check spelling; this will make your ideas easier to understand and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “if any individual living in a rented house…” and “if he have his own house…”. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to follow. Examples include “it has become a fundamental part … to have,” “owning house also cause,” and “he also have to follow,” where sentence structure, articles, or subject–verb agreement need correction. The sentence beginning “Because due to have own…” is also incomplete and grammatically unclear. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them, and check agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
