IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Home is the place where we spend more time and we have alot of memories there, in most countries owning a home is preferred rather than having a rental appartment .
Specially in south asia where i live, people loves to have their own property, they feel more comfortable at their own home, having own home brings alot of privileges, freedom of doing anything, no stress to pay rent monthly and vice versa.
In my perspective, its a positive situation whereas i fully support this statement just because where i grew up, i have observed that rental home brings alot of mental stress, anxiety moreover, home ownership is shower of blessing, We can freedomly do whatever we want, it brings a sense of security, people love to have their own permanent home, it brings independence with ownership, they can decore, renovate their home according to their pocket and will.
Moreover, ownership is a long term investment , it helps to grow up in future just because it value may increase over time whereas own house brings stablitiy and secuirty also, families are more stablized and feel safe at their own place as well as no stress of monthly rent once the mortage is paid , house is yours now and you are fully comfortable.
According to my point of view, i fully support this stance in positive situation, i am just saying with asian mindset becacuse where i live it was so important and people still carries same mindset of owning a home whereas in europe it might be different just because of people mindset it always varries person to person .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value ownership for comfort, freedom, security and avoiding rent, and you clearly regard this as positive. The personal reference to South Asia gives your response a relevant context, while the points about investment and family stability add further support. This meets the task well, and your position is clear. However, some reasons are asserted rather than explained—for example, “freedom of doing anything” could be clarified with a specific example of how ownership changes daily life. The comparison with Europe is also introduced only briefly. To strengthen the response further, develop fewer reasons in more depth and explain why home ownership is especially important in the countries you mention.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your response has a recognisable overall structure: an opening, supporting paragraphs and a concluding restatement of your view. The ideas are generally relevant and the reader can follow your main argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear because several points are joined in long sequences, particularly in the paragraph beginning “In my perspective.” Connectors such as “Moreover” and “whereas” are used, but some links do not show a clear relationship between the ideas. The conclusion repeats your position rather than drawing the reasons together. Use clearer topic sentences, separate distinct reasons into focused paragraphs, and make references such as “this stance” more precise. This would create a more consistent line of development.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “mental stress,” “sense of security,” “long term investment” and “stability,” which helps communicate your main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “home ownership is shower of blessing,” “freedomly,” and “families are more stablized.” Spelling errors—including “appartment,” “decore” and “secui[r]ty”—are noticeable and reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Some wording is also repetitive, especially repeated references to comfort, security and owning a home. Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, explain that ownership can provide “greater autonomy” or “financial security” rather than relying on broad phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “whereas,” “just because” and “once,” and your central meaning is usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain multiple grammatical problems. For example, “people loves” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “we can freedomly do whatever we want” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. The opening also joins independent ideas with a comma, and some sentences run on through several clauses, making relationships difficult to follow. Articles and possessives are sometimes missing, as in “having own home.” Use shorter, complete sentences when presenting each reason, and check agreement, articles and punctuation when revising complex sentences.
