IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some countries owning a home is way more important than renting for people. Some agree with this while few people diagree but, I disagree with this statement and I believe this is negative situation.
Overall, it depends on the countries for instance if I talk about Pakistan renting a house is not big deal because rents are less if we compare with other develp countries but still people sell their business to build the home and after that they have to live hand to mouth but, after building they thought that we have achieved something in their life. For example I have seen this in my real life, one of my maternal side relative did the same and now they are living very difficult life there business is not growing they had sold their business shop too just to comstruct the house.
However, I think its just a society pressue on everybody who think constructing the home is the biggest achievemnet of the life. Society pressure is basically making this decision the negative otherwise, those who can afford are constructing a castles instead of home.
I personally, believe in that, if the person is able to get home easily than that specific individual have to buy but if its just because of society presure and to show other people that I bought this in very young age and all than it comes in negative way because it demotivates other person. But renting a home instead of owning it is not bad thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear view that social pressure to own a home can make the situation negative, and the example of your relative selling a business supports the financial risk you identify. However, the response only partly explains why home ownership is important in some countries. The idea that people see it as an achievement is relevant, but it needs fuller explanation, such as security, status, or cultural expectations. Your discussion also shifts between owning, renting, and constructing a home without always clarifying the distinction. Develop the reasons behind the preference as well as the consequences, and make the link between each example and your overall position more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a paragraph with a personal example, a paragraph about social pressure, and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader a general sense of the argument. However, progression between ideas is not always clear. The opening says “Some agree with this” without specifying what “this” refers to, and “Overall” introduces an example rather than a summary. Connectors such as “However” and “but” are used, but some links are awkward or repetitive, and the final paragraph combines several points in one long sequence. Use clearer topic sentences and organise each paragraph around one main idea, with references that make the relationships between claims explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “renting,” “society pressure,” “achievemnet,” and “demotivates,” and the reader can generally understand your position. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “live hand to mouth.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural: “constructing a castles,” “develp countries,” and “not big deal” are examples. Spelling errors such as “diagree,” “pressue,” and “comstruct” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of expressions for housing, financial security, and social expectations, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if the person is able to get home easily than…” and clauses introduced by “because.” However, complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow, and errors occur frequently. For example, “Some agree with this while few people diagree but, I disagree” has an unclear sentence structure, while “one of my maternal side relative did the same and now they are living” has problems with number agreement and tense. Articles, punctuation, and sentence boundaries also need attention; several ideas are joined with commas where a full stop or clearer conjunction is needed. Practise accurate sentence patterns before adding more clauses.
