IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, people believe that the purcahseing the house is more relevent than living in rental place. Because, they thought that the ownership of assets provide more security to live peacefully. I firmly agree that it is more secure than rental plcae, but a renting appartment or house also secure if people sign documents and pays rent on time.
Globally, individuals prefer to purchase house of spend their life. They prefer to sepnd fortune on ownership of house. In contrast, some people always renting appartment or tanents and sign agrement of few yers for renting place. For example, most of celebrities rent villas or tanents for few years and they pay rent has expense and save their taxes. While, most of them booked for few month because of shooting on going there and they saveing their travelling time.
Moreover, the renting appartment is mostly helpful for the people who always prefer to travel at different locations because of their work.It also beneficial for saving cost of expense on purchasing house. On the other hand, it might be riskey in security purpose. Some people also find difficulty to find rental property near school or hospital facilities. So, people prefer to purchase private property and resides there for rest of their life. I agree with them, but in my perspective, when a people travel occasionally due to their profession at that time renting appartments is more beneffical than owning an private property.
In conclusion, the rental property providing beneffits for flexible work environment. While, the personal property provids security and its an one type of invesment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that ownership is valued for security and investment, and you discuss renting as flexible and useful for people who travel for work. Your position is present—“I firmly agree” that ownership is more secure, while renting can suit some circumstances—but it becomes less clear in the final paragraph, which mainly lists benefits rather than directly judging whether the overall preference is positive or negative. The reasons are relevant, but several are only briefly stated. For instance, the claims about security and difficulty finding rentals near schools or hospitals would be stronger with explanation or a specific, realistic example. Develop the causes of the preference and make your overall evaluation explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and signposts such as “In contrast,” “Moreover” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is uneven: the second paragraph moves from general ownership preferences to celebrities renting for tax and filming reasons, which does not clearly build the main argument. Some links are also mechanical or confusing, particularly “While” at the start of the final sentence in that paragraph. The conclusion introduces a contrast but does not clearly resolve the question. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then connect each example directly to that reason. Clearer referencing and more purposeful transitions would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “ownership,” “security,” “rental property,” “flexible” and “investment,” so the reader can generally identify your subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “purchase house of spend their life,” “rent has expense,” and “riskey in security purpose”; these phrases do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “relevent,” “appartment” and “beneffical” also recur. Build a bank of accurate housing collocations, such as “buy a home,” “pay rent” and “financial security,” and check spelling and word forms carefully. This would improve precision without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including contrasts introduced by “but,” “while” and “because.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty; errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “Because, they thought that the ownership of assets provide…” is an incomplete sentence followed by a subject–verb agreement error. In “a renting appartment or house also secure,” the verb is missing, while “a people travel” and “they pay rent” show problems with articles and agreement. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles and verb forms before adding subordinate clauses.
