IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some countries buying own house is expensive or restricted by the government authorities on the other hand owing a house become more important for the peoples.

The consequence of such senarios depends on the countries situations which are mainly on the Financial situations and land areas. Mainly citizen of Euorpean countries prefer to rent a house rather than owing. Due to the reason of high taxes and prices. And these States also faced the problems of housing crisis.

However, South east states such as Pakistan and India most of the people own more than one home and also ther're able to rent their apartments and houses. These are some priviligies most of the euorpean citizens are deprived from. Become a Tenant is also economical for such asian peoples.

Furthermore, Owing home is more crucial due to some priviliged factors such as reducing the high cost of house rent such as in america where renting a good size apartment took huge amount of the income. Buying house is far more easier as well due to morgage system in america which is designed to facilitate the US salaried class citizens.

Renting house is suitable for single person or for couple as they have less responsibilities and they require less space. Owning house is the need of bigger families.

In my prespective, Owning assest is relaible for own use and way to earn money if you own more than one house also you can get the rid from high rents and taxes and by the passage of time these assests give the good amount of investments as well so this is a positive situation of owning assests.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest reasons for valuing ownership, including avoiding rent and gaining an asset, and you state that you consider it positive. These points are relevant, but the explanation of why ownership matters varies in clarity and development. For example, the claim that it is “the need of bigger families” is asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of European and South Asian countries relies on broad comparisons without showing how these examples answer the question. Your position becomes clearest in the final paragraph, so make it explicit earlier and support each main reason with a specific explanation or example. This would make the response more complete and developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable paragraph structure, moving from country differences to reasons for ownership and then to your opinion. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Furthermore” help signal some changes in direction. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the opening introduces buying restrictions, but the following paragraphs shift between regional comparisons, renting, family size and investment without a consistent line of argument. Some connections are also awkward or incomplete, such as “Due to the reason of high taxes and prices.” Use each paragraph to develop one central point, and connect examples directly to that point. Clearer referencing and fewer abrupt transitions would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to housing and finance, including “housing crisis,” “mortgage system,” “salaried class” and “investments.” This gives you some range beyond basic terms. However, errors in spelling, word form and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “senarios,” “priviligies,” “owing home,” and “get the rid from high rents.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “good amount of investments” and “more crucial due to some priviliged factors.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding ambitious terms where their meaning is uncertain. Proofreading spelling and learning common housing-related collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both short statements and attempts at longer structures, including the sentence beginning “In my perspective” and the clause “as they have less responsibilities.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect ease of reading. For instance, “buying own house is expensive or restricted … on the other hand owing a house become more important” lacks clear sentence boundaries and has subject–verb agreement problems. Other examples include “most of the people own” and “renting a good size apartment took huge amount,” where articles, agreement and verb forms need attention. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then check articles, plurals and agreement before adding subordinate clauses.
