IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Home is only the shelter where people can live with there own choices like how to sleep or eat.It is claimed that owning a home rather than renting is very crucial in some countries. In my opinion, i absolutely agree with this point of view. I will explain my opinion briefly with also example.
To the begin, living in our own home is completely different from living in a rent home. In some countries, government told to people to live in there own home because they thought that living in personal home is right of every person in country. This might be happen in a developed countries. If people have there own home then they do anything in their home according to their will. They can sleep according to wish.they can be swim in there pool without any disturbance. They will have lot of oppourtunities to spend a good time with their family members and will recognise these moment in a good. they will not have any worries about paying rent of the because it's there own peoperty.
Instead, if we are living in a rent house then we have worry to pay the rent of the home as soon as possible. If we do not pay then landlord will depart from the house with whole family.a few days ago, i have seen in ou neigbhour that landlord came and departed our neigbhours from because they did not pay the rent.
To conclude,it should be a great gesture if every country insist people to live in their own home and help them to buy their home if they do not able to buy home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear opinion that home ownership is important and offer reasons, including greater freedom in one’s home and avoiding rent payments. The neighbour anecdote also attempts to illustrate the insecurity of renting. However, the task asks both why ownership matters in some countries and whether this is positive or negative. The reasons are only partly explained, and the positive judgement is not consistently developed: the conclusion recommends that countries encourage ownership, but the introduction’s claim of agreement does not clearly state whether you consider the situation positive or negative. The claim that governments tell people to own homes is also not explained or supported. Develop the cultural or economic reasons behind this preference and explicitly evaluate its benefits and possible drawbacks.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, a main discussion and a conclusion, and the contrast between owning and renting gives the reader a basic organising idea. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from government policy to personal freedom, swimming, family time and rent, while the second shifts abruptly to an anecdote. Linking phrases such as “To the begin” and “Instead” are attempted, but some are inaccurate or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. References such as “they” and “these moment” are not always clear, and several thoughts run together without effective punctuation. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, explain it in sequence, and use accurate transitions and clear references to connect supporting examples.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “landlord,” “rent,” “personal home” and “opportunities,” so the reader can follow the general topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “departed our neighbours from” does not clearly express that the landlord evicted them, and “recognise these moment in a good” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “oppourtunities,” “neigbhour” and “peoperty,” alongside repeated use of “home” and “rent.” Build a more precise set of topic expressions and check spelling and natural combinations of words; the suggestions below offer useful replacements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional forms such as “If people have their own home then they do anything…” and “If we do not pay then landlord will…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “Home is only the shelter where people can live,” “This might be happen,” and “if they do not able to buy home,” which show problems with articles, verb forms and sentence construction. Subject–verb agreement and tense are also unreliable, as in “government told to people” and “they thought.” Punctuation and capitalisation need attention too, particularly missing spaces after full stops and lowercase “i.” Practise accurate basic clauses before extending them, and proofread each sentence for verbs, articles and punctuation.
