IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In various nations, purchasing one's own home is very crucial rather than just renting the home for individuals. This maybe due to various reasons such as financial stability and marriage. From my perspective, having one's own house has far more benefits than its possible demerits. Thus, it is a positive change.
At the outset, there are two most plausible reasons for this trend. The most important reason is having a stability in life. Some people find it significant to own one's own house as an symbol of stability and achievement in their life. For instance, if a person earns income, rather than spending money on rent for a lifetime,he can just make savings can purchase a house of its own. Another significant reason could be marriage. It is a common belief in many nations such as China, that a person should have its own house before marriage. As it provides security to their partner and they do not need to worry about where they live after marriage. Thus, these could be some reasons that impacts the individuals choice of renting a house or owning a home.
There are several advantages of this trend. First and foremost, having their personal house or property can provide them more stability and profits. As they can purchase a house once, and its property value will surely increase in future. It is far better than renting a house and giving rent without having any long tern benefits. Secondly, it can provide a sense of belongingness. If one has its own home ,then he does not need to worry about shifting and can have emotional feelings with that apartment. Last but not the least, it also provide a sense of accomplishment. Purschasing a house is the one of the biggest financials decisions, thus it can provide greater happiness in one's life.
Conclusively, Owning one's own house is very cruicial in many nations than renting a home because of the stability and marriage concerns. i believe it is a postive change due to its multiple benefits such as financial savings, future profits and emotional connections.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that home ownership represents stability and may be expected before marriage, then clearly state that you see it as positive. The supporting points about avoiding lifelong rent, property value and emotional attachment are relevant. This response also shows some development beyond a simple list, particularly in explaining the security a home may offer a couple. However, some claims are broad or insufficiently qualified—for example, that property value “will surely increase”—and the marriage point could be supported with a more specific explanation. The conclusion repeats the main ideas rather than adding insight. More balanced, precise development of the reasons and benefits would make the response more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why ownership matters, a paragraph outlining benefits, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposting such as “First and foremost,” “Secondly” and “Conclusively” helps the reader follow the argument. The examples are placed alongside the points they support. Some linking is rather formulaic, however, and the final sentence of the first body paragraph repeats the idea of reasons without advancing the discussion. There are also occasional unclear references, such as “its property value” and “they” after a singular “one.” Use transitions more selectively and make pronoun references explicit to achieve smoother cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial stability,” “security,” “property value,” “sense of belonging” and “sense of accomplishment.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a stability in life,” “long tern benefits,” “emotional feelings,” and “financials decisions.” Spelling errors including “Purschasing,” “cruicial” and “postive” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “house,” “own” and “stability” limits flexibility. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling; for example, describe a home as a “symbol of stability” and refer to “long-term benefits.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, some errors in articles, agreement, sentence construction and punctuation remain. Examples include “an symbol,” “it also provide,” and “the one of the biggest financials decisions.” The sentence “he can just make savings can purchase a house” contains a faulty structure, while “As it provides security…” is a fragment in this context. There are also inconsistent spaces after punctuation and sentence openings with lowercase “i.” Review article use, subject–verb agreement and how to join clauses; then proofread for complete sentences and consistent capitalization.
