IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In few countries peoples's think getting a home is important than renting.Overall, I am going to discuss negative and positive point and than give my opinion.
firstly, I am going to discuss those people's who think owing a home is more important because they though those people's who have thier own home living much better life these people do not have to pay heavy rent or also searching for a better place. This is a also one kind of investment afcourse in future prics will rise and also best for thier kids. Most of Asian people make more property like india, pakistan and nepal. One of major reason s respect the person who is the owner of house has more respect than those people who live in rent. Ther is also some security issues.
Now i am going to discuss those people who prefer to live in rented house they do not buy thier own home because of extremely high texas, This is mostly common in eourpean countries because there is alot of students who ca not buy properties and there is also those people who are no satisfy to own a property they prefer to live in rented house as much as they want they dont have to pay heavy texas.
I discussed both point people's have thier own opinion my opinion is owning a home is much better than renting a house or a apartment because i do not want to apend my half salary on rent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question by giving reasons for home ownership and explaining why some people rent, then stating that you prefer owning a home. Relevant reasons include avoiding rent, treating a property as an investment, and having security. However, the discussion is limited and several points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that owners receive more respect and the reference to security issues are not developed. Your position appears only at the end, and the opening promises a discussion of positive and negative points without clearly identifying your view. The response is also three words below the required minimum. Develop each main reason with a clear explanation or example, and state your position directly in the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about ownership, a paragraph about renting, and a concluding opinion. This helps the reader identify the two sides being discussed. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and the repeated signposting—“firstly,” “Now i am going to discuss,” and “I discussed both point”—makes the organisation feel mechanical. Some ideas are placed together without clear links, such as investment, children, respect, and security in the ownership paragraph. The conclusion also repeats the comparison rather than drawing the discussion together. Use clearer topic sentences, group related reasons, and connect each explanation to the main point with more precise referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “rent,” “investment,” “property,” and “security.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “heavy rent” and “owning a home.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear: “texas” appears to mean taxes, while “prics” and “thier” are misspelled. Phrases such as “make more property” and “not satisfy to own a property” are also unnatural. Build a more accurate set of collocations for housing and finance, and check spelling and word forms carefully so your ideas are expressed precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a reason introduced with “because” and a clause beginning “who prefer to live in rented house.” However, the range is limited, and longer sentences are often difficult to follow because of frequent errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “people's think” has incorrect agreement and possessive form, while “these people do not have to pay heavy rent or also searching” does not maintain a parallel verb structure. Missing or misplaced full stops also create run-on sentences. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “although,” and “which.”
