IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some states have a significant belief that owning a home personally is vital rather than renting one for individuals because owning a house helps to boost prestige in society. I believe that living in a rented home helps you plan your budget.
The concept of owning a house comes from a family who always chose his/her prestige. People can also get the comfort and relay on themselves to cover the rent and other major expenses. Although, sometimes it maybe hard for an individual to cover each and everything and plan your whole budgent that moves aroihnd your house. The positive aspects of owning a house of your own is that, one doesn't need to share thier personal space with any other person. Moreover, one can have lots of space to manage their rooms, for place to add things and space for many rooms. For instance, if I own a house I can plan to make a space for my yoga room and add gym to another room consequently.
Sometimes, people argue that living in a rental house causes one to lack the prestige because everyone just view your lifestlye differently. I beleive that living in a rental space helps to ameliorate your budget well. It is easy to plan the living and only have limited space of your needs which also saves your money. For example, you can only buy things of your need which helps you allocate your lifestyle accordingly and makes you save the housing loan expenses.
In conlusion, there are both the positive as well as negative aspects of owning a house or living in a rental accomodation. Rental location helps you save the housing loan whereas owning a house gives your personal space.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you suggest that home ownership is linked to social prestige, and you give a view that renting can help people manage their budget. However, the response does not fully explain why owning a home is important in some countries, and the discussion shifts between the advantages of owning and renting without clearly evaluating whether the situation overall is positive or negative. The opening says renting is beneficial, while the conclusion presents both sides but does not make a definite judgement. Ideas such as prestige, personal space and saving on housing costs are relevant, but they need clearer explanation and support. State your overall position directly and develop each main reason with a clear cause-and-effect explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so there is some basic organisation. The examples about a yoga room and buying only necessary items also help illustrate the points. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the first body paragraph moves from family prestige to rent expenses and then to the benefits of owning a house. The contrast between ownership and renting is not consistently signposted, and linking words such as “Although” and “Moreover” do not always clarify how ideas relate. The conclusion repeats the two sides rather than drawing the discussion together. Give each body paragraph one clear focus, use transitions to show contrast or explanation, and make references such as “this” or “it” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “prestige,” “personal space,” “budget” and “housing loan expenses,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “cover the rent” when discussing owning a home, “relay on themselves,” and “ameliorate your budget.” Spelling errors—including “budgent,” “lifestlye” and “conlusion”—also make the writing less controlled. Some phrases, such as “things of your need,” sound unnatural. Aim for precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, use “manage household expenses” rather than “ameliorate your budget,” and distinguish clearly between mortgage costs, rent and other housing expenses.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if I own a house” and a sentence introduced by “Although.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “The positive aspects … is” has subject–verb disagreement, while “one doesn't need … with any other person” shifts awkwardly between singular and plural reference. The sentence beginning “Although” is incomplete, and “People can also get the comfort and … to cover the rent” has an unclear grammatical structure. Work on complete sentence construction, consistent pronouns, agreement and verb forms. After drafting, check each sentence for a clear subject and verb and ensure subordinate clauses are attached to a main clause.
