IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In various nations, people believe that it is vital to purchase a home rather than rental accomodation. This is largly due to owning house can give comfort and reduce stress while rented homes gives a person tension of buying house. From my perspective, it is positive state because property which belongs to person is best emotion and it will give relaxtion to human as well.

From my point of view, it is case as society argued that everyone must have their owned apartment rather than staying at place which is not yours. I also agree with this statement as owned flat gives public to feel relaxed as well as reduce stress of buying a home for future. Currently, they have a place to live therefre, they can concentrate on other thnigs which is essential for them to live. For example, after they bought a home, they can focus on others such as a buying a car and a jewellery. As a result, community become rich as days goes.

According to me, it is positive mindset as individuals start to hardwork to invest in residence area. Citizens will do more jobs to own a place where they can live easily with family. That is why it is better to have a accomodation rather than rented one. Renting property will waste our money as well as time and after all this we are still left without house. In resulting, common people might get a place to live.

To conclude, owned property will reduce stress of a person and give him that feeling of comfort while, rented houses give tension to a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value ownership because it offers comfort and security, and you clearly state that you see this as positive. However, the explanation of why home ownership matters is not always clear. For example, the claim that renting creates “tension of buying house” seems to confuse the costs or uncertainty of renting with the process of buying. Your reasons for calling ownership positive—reduced stress and the ability to focus on other purchases—are relevant, but they need fuller explanation and more convincing support. The point that people may work harder to buy a home is also introduced without showing why this makes the situation positive overall. Develop each reason with a clear cause-and-effect explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify your general position. Some ideas are grouped by topic, such as comfort in the first body paragraph and working to buy a home in the second. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the move from owning a home to buying a car and jewellery does not explain how these examples support your argument. Linking phrases such as “As a result,” “That is why” and “In resulting” are sometimes repetitive or do not express the relationship accurately. The conclusion repeats the opening idea rather than bringing the main reasons together. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a limited but relevant set of words for the topic, including “purchase,” “property,” “invest” and “accommodation.” The main message is generally understandable, but repeated basic terms such as “home,” “house,” “place” and “stress” restrict precision. Several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems also make parts difficult to interpret, including “largly,” “relaxtion,” “hardwork” and “In resulting.” Some combinations are unnatural, such as “positive state,” “owned flat gives public” and “invest in residence area.” Aim to learn common collocations for housing and financial security, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the security of ownership from the costs or uncertainty associated with renting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “as” and a result clause beginning “therefore.” However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine ideas often contain frequent errors that can make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “owning house can give comfort” is missing an article, while “rented homes gives” has subject–verb disagreement. In “Currently, they have a place to live therefre, they can concentrate,” the clauses are joined incorrectly, and “community become rich as days goes” has agreement errors. Punctuation is also unreliable, as in “while, rented houses.” Practise accurate articles, agreement and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
