IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era, renting home consider very important then having private home. I partially agree with the view point, people who can not afford own house can live in rented house, but private home also a paramount for famailies.

The positive situation is that, rented houses easily available, and the other advantage for those people who move one city to another city because of their work. Nowadays, houses on monthly cost provided all kind of facilities. Especially in cities area contrusting own house is so difficult, because they are so expensive and demand high cost. people who earn on daily or monthly basis cannot afford to construst own house. Therefore, people preffer rented houses. They have just to pay there monthly bill and live a great life. For stance, village peoples preffer to move in cities for better life and for the education purposes, they buy house on rent and live and take facilites of citie life. Rented house is such a great thing for those people who are government employees.Because every 6 to 1 year gap of time period, governmnet move their employees to another cities.

On the other hand, the negative effect is that, private home is also very essential. People who have their own houses cannot pay monthly bills. Some people who eran on daily basis face a lot of challanges to pay their bills, like elctricity bills, water bills, gas bills. So its tuff for people to pay one more bill such as house rent. People with low-income must have their own houses, either its depend on small even 2 rooms apartments. A prime example is that a person with family of two kids ad wife live in a small town or citie, a husband earn money on monthely basis and has a private job, so it is easy to travel with low cost daily and save money and use for other purpose rather then taking a dicisson to move near to the job area where they pay much more money for rent house.

In conclusion, both positive nad negative situation may be possible depend on the situtaion whether you are a privte job worker or government worker. Because as compared to private sectror, governmnet pay extra money if they move from there citie to another city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both why renting may be common and whether the situation is positive or negative, using examples such as workers who move between cities and people who cannot afford to build a house. However, the response does not fully answer the task’s central focus: it asks why owning a home is important in some countries, while much of your discussion explains the advantages of renting. Your position is also unclear: “I partially agree” is not directly connected to the question, and the conclusion says the situation depends on a person’s job without clearly judging whether home ownership being highly valued is positive or negative. Develop the reasons for valuing ownership and state a consistent overall view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposting such as “On the other hand” helps show a contrast. The examples about mobile government employees and low-income families also give the reader some sense of how your points relate. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the first body paragraph focuses on renting, while the second shifts between rent affordability, owning a home and commuting costs. Some links are unclear or repetitive, including “Therefore” followed by “For stance,” and the conclusion does not clearly resolve the contrast. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “monthly bills,” “low-income,” “government employees” and “private home,” so the reader can generally identify the subject of your examples. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repeated expressions make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “houses on monthly cost,” “take facilites of citie life” and “move their employees to another cities.” Spelling errors such as “famailies,” “preffer” and “governmnet” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “pay monthly rent” rather than “pay their monthly bill,” and “transfer employees to another city” rather than “move their employees to another cities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “For example.” This shows an effort to connect ideas rather than relying only on short statements. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries can make meaning hard to follow. For instance, “renting home consider very important” lacks a clear verb structure, while “People who have their own houses cannot pay monthly bills” does not express the intended contrast clearly. There are also errors in “a person with family of two kids ad wife live.” Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and punctuating complete sentences before adding more clauses.
