IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is essential for citizens in some country of the world to having a permanent living place than having a renting one. I think it has both negative and positive sides that depends on the people that are they living that place for permanent purpose or they just there for their job or study purpose.
People who are living a country or a place for permanently they should have a own home if there is no chance to leave that place. Renting a home for a long time is a bit expensive and if you got your own house than you didnt need to bear that expenses for every month. As well as people can live freely in their own house like they can have a yard and can do gardening as they like or they no need to worry about the objects using carefully to not spoil it than home owner will complain.
On the other hand, People who came to the place for their study purpose or for job and they are staying in that place for a short time than it will be waste to invest on permanent home , it is suitable for them to have a home on rent.Because whenever their study is over or they can transfered from that place, they can not take care the place after they left and investing a substantial amount of asset then just move another place is worst planning to have . It will make more expenses in your daily life .
Neverthlessness, Making the decision of having the house on own or rent should be consider by your positon in that country . Major investments of life should be taken for financial ease not adding another expense to your bills. Permanent citizens of a country should make a own home for the purpose of living the rest of their life there.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question by explaining why permanent residents may prefer ownership and why people staying temporarily may rent. The examples of avoiding monthly rent and having freedom to garden are relevant, as is the point that buying may not suit someone who could move for work or study. However, the task asks whether this situation is positive or negative, and your view that it has “both negative and positive sides” is not developed into a clear overall judgement. The final paragraph shifts towards advice about making a personal financial decision rather than evaluating the wider situation. To strengthen the response, state clearly which side you consider more positive or negative and support that judgement with a fuller explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for people who stay permanently and temporarily, and a concluding paragraph. This helps the reader follow the two circumstances being compared. However, the overall progression is not always clear because the conclusion introduces a general recommendation without resolving your position on whether home ownership being important is positive or negative. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, such as “On the other hand” followed by another contrast within the same paragraph, and “Neverthlessness” does not clearly signal the relationship intended. Use a more direct sequence—reasons for ownership, reasons for renting, then your evaluation—and make references such as “that place” and “they” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “permanent,” “invest,” “substantial amount,” and “financial ease,” and you attempt to express distinctions between long-term and short-term residence. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural: “a permanent living place,” “have a home on rent,” and “major investments of life” are examples. There are also spelling errors, including “Neverthlessness” and “positon.” Aim to learn common topic collocations and use them precisely; for example, refer to “owning a home,” “renting accommodation,” and “long-term residents.” This would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional ideas such as “if there is no chance to leave that place” and explanations beginning with “Because.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “It is essential … to having,” “if you got your own house than you didnt need,” and “should be consider.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction, as in “they should have a own home” and “people who came … and they are staying.” Practise building accurate clauses with consistent verb forms, such as “If people plan to stay, they should consider buying a home.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
