IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many nations owining your own house is cansidered batter then a rentel unit bue to alot of rizens. while i beleve that it is hard to own a house there days but 100% positive for every individuals and there famely.
First and farmost banefit to own a place is that it well gave you a safety.a parson can sell the house when he is in a rainey day. such as to clear out a loan or to pay a study bill of there kids of even a hospital bill. apart from that a normal individual dosesn't have to sall a house they can take a loan on behalf of ther home in these situtans. and they can even use that money from the loan to start there own bussness. for example a home owner who purched a home 20 years ago at 1 million dollars can sold it for 4 million. he can also take a loan on it.
Owininga home is not jast an financal investment but it is also an emoshional assert to the famely. people bevele that they well give a safe place to live to there kids so they don't have to warry about the rent. they also don't have to warry to free the place after some time of use like rentel homes. but nowadays it's really hard to own a home from the start due to the high price of the land campared with olden times. to explain it using an example the price of a 3bhk home in 2026 is 10 times higher then 20 years. but ther per capita incame is only incresed by 3.5 times so that is the biggest rizen people avoid buying a house therse days.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that ownership offers financial security and a stable home for children, and you clearly judge it to be positive. The examples of selling a property or borrowing against it help explain the financial benefit. This response meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger development, particularly in the discussion of security. However, the reasons are not equally well explained: the emotional value and freedom from rent are mentioned but not explored in much detail. The final comparison between house prices and per-capita income explains why ownership is difficult, but its connection to your positive judgement could be made clearer. Develop each reason with a more precise explanation and keep the position consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a progression from financial benefits to family security and affordability. Linking phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Apart from that,” and “but nowadays” help signal the direction of ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the long second paragraph moves from emotional security to rising prices without a clear transition explaining how this relates to your overall view. References such as “they” and “that money” are not always immediately precise, and several sentences run together through weak punctuation. Use clearer topic sentences, divide the final paragraph’s distinct points, and make links between examples and claims more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “financial investment,” “emotional asset,” “per capita income,” and “loan,” and these choices show an effort to discuss both economic and personal reasons. However, spelling errors are very noticeable, including “owining,” “cansidered,” and “incame,” and some word combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “a safety” and “in a rainey day.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to identify your intended meaning. The range is also limited by repeated use of “home,” “house,” and “worry.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, then vary repeated terms with suitable alternatives such as “property” or “housing.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “when,” “so,” and “who,” which gives you some structural variety. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “it well gave you a safety” has an unclear verb form and article, while “a home owner … can sold it” uses an incorrect verb form. Several sentences begin with lowercase letters, and full stops are missing or misplaced, as in “a safety.a parson.” Practise accurate simple sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences while checking subject–verb agreement, tense, articles, and sentence boundaries.
