IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
nowadays we can't find any people who has not any home actually it is common among all people. Also live in a own home is better than renting home . In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people . i think it is positive situation. i strongly agree with .
Firstly we can save a lot of money to stay in own home . besides it is more convenient and affordable . its provide us a lot of facilities we can do anything which we want. we can't fee anything to stay our own home. also we can get one or more room in a rent which makes us in rich on financial sector
On the other hand, owning a house can also have some disadvantages. Firstly, buying a home requires a large amount of money, which is not affordable for everyone. Many people have to take loans from banks and spend several years repaying them. Moreover, homeowners have to pay for maintenance and repairs, which can create extra financial pressure. In addition, some people may prefer renting because it allows them to move easily from one place to another for better job opportunities. Therefore, owning a home is not always the best choice for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a clear opinion that home ownership is positive and include relevant reasons, such as saving money and having greater convenience, before acknowledging costs, loans, maintenance, and the flexibility of renting. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it does not explain in much detail why owning a home is especially important in some countries, and several points are unclear or unsupported. The final paragraph develops disadvantages of ownership but does not clearly weigh them against your stated positive view. The response contains 198 words, so it is 52 words below the required minimum; the 15 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the reasons and explain your overall judgement more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the opening states your view, the next paragraph gives reasons in favour, and the final paragraph introduces disadvantages with “On the other hand.” Connectors such as “Firstly,” “besides,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is not consistently clear. The first paragraph repeats the task wording, and the positive-reasons paragraph moves abruptly between saving money, facilities, and renting rooms. Some links are inaccurate or confusing, particularly “also we can get one or more room in a rent,” which makes the relationship to the preceding point difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and arrange each paragraph around one main idea, with explanations that show how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “owning a home,” “renting,” “loans,” “repaying,” “maintenance,” and “job opportunities.” This gives you enough basic language to communicate the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to understand. For example, “we can't fee anything to stay our own home” and “makes us in rich on financial sector” do not express a clear idea, while “a own home” and “one or more room in a rent” are not natural phrases. Build a bank of accurate housing-related collocations and check that each phrase conveys the intended meaning. Avoid repeating “home” and “own” when a more precise expression is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including the complex sentence “Many people have to take loans from banks and spend several years repaying them.” The final paragraph also shows some control of clauses explaining causes and consequences. However, the range is limited overall, and frequent errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation can make the opening and positive-reasons paragraph difficult to read. Examples include “people who has,” “live in a own home,” “its provide us,” and the incomplete phrase “i strongly agree with.” Several ideas are run together without full stops, and sentence beginnings and the pronoun “I” are not capitalised. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add complex clauses while checking each sentence for a complete structure.
