IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Acording to the country and area home purchace and rent price are diffrent it's a deppend on a location or how many BHK do you want. Some people buy a home for sattel there and some are to invest a money in a infastature.

It's a depend of countris people mindset if someone are looking for a good house to live with his family for long time so he directly purchase it And mainly a long time a person who live in same country this one can purchase a home because they have a location and there caltature idea and other main things is family safty. mainly a satteled people are purchase a house as campaire as undergraduate person. If a person buy a house and start a renting a batchlour student he got a side income for that purchase home.

A person who comes to a new country for his abroad study so taht kind of stidents not a purches a house they can do rant a house for spacific years or months beacause that person don't have a permision for purchase a house in a country first of all they want to made a cittizian and a pr proccess.

I think owning a house rather then renting is a positive situation because if you can not buy that house anyone lese buy it and same thing to do.if you want a bussinus so you purchess a house and rent it for batcholor or family for your side source of income.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people buy homes for family security, long-term settlement and rental income, and you state that ownership is positive. These are relevant reasons, but the explanation is limited and sometimes unclear. For example, the point about people who have lived in a country for a long time is not fully connected to why ownership matters, while the claim that newcomers cannot buy property is presented as a general fact without qualification or support. Your final opinion is also brief and repeats the rental-income idea rather than developing the wider benefits or possible drawbacks. Explain each reason with a clear cause-and-effect link and support your positive position with a specific example or comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation: the response moves from reasons for buying, to the situation of international students, and then to your opinion. However, the progression between ideas is not consistently clear, and the paragraphing does not make the argument easy to follow. Several points are joined together in long sequences, such as the discussion of family, settlement and safety, while the opening comments about prices and property size do not lead clearly into the main answer. Connect each paragraph to one central point and use clear topic sentences. Linking words such as “and,” “so” and “because” are repeated or used where the relationship between ideas is uncertain; more precise transitions and clearer references would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to housing and finance, including “purchase,” “invest,” “side income” and “citizenship process.” However, the range is limited and many spelling, word-form and collocation errors make parts of the response difficult to understand, for example “infastature,” “sattled,” “renting a batchlour student” and “for his abroad study.” Some expressions appear to be direct translations and do not communicate the intended meaning naturally. Build a reliable set of phrases for discussing home ownership, such as “long-term security,” “property investment” and “rental income,” and check spelling carefully. Choosing familiar, accurate wording is more effective than attempting an unclear phrase.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and conditions using structures such as “if someone…” and “because,” but the response relies heavily on simple clauses and the longer sentences are often difficult to follow. Errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles occur frequently, as in “if someone are looking,” “he directly purchase it,” and “a person who comes… so that kind of students not a purchase a house.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly where sentences run together. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense in each clause. For example, use “If someone is looking for a home, they may purchase one” rather than combining several ideas without clear grammatical links.
