IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Buying a house is significantly valuable in few countries than tenancy. In my perspective, it is a positive situation because it provides you financial security, high social status and asset to pass on their children. But it also has negative impact also, such as, judgemant to the people who don't own a home.
The major positive significance is the financial security. Many individuals think that if they have their own house it will save them from unnecessary rental payouts. Moreover, they can decorate their house according to their will and do whatever they want to do in their personal space. In addition, It will save them from the landlord pressure, for instance, to leave the house.
Turning towards the other aspects, it provides a good social status in society because most of the people think that buying their own home is a big achivement in life and society also. Although residents also feel relaxed after buying home, they can spend their money on other different goals like travelling or can save it for future. Additionally, many citizens find it meaningful and fundamental asset to heritage since the value of property is increases day by day due to higher inflation rates in the world. The prices are rising so it is a lifetime best investment.
It has some negative aspects also , for example, when someone purchase a residence premises, they judge other rental community poor as they can not afford to buy a house.
In conclusion, i stand with the positive side of owing a home than renting one for many reasons like investment etc but it also has negative aspect also and everyone has their own opinion on it .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that home ownership offers financial security, personal freedom, social status and an asset to pass on, and you clearly favour it overall. These are relevant reasons, and the example of avoiding pressure from a landlord helps explain one benefit. However, some points are not fully developed or are unclear. For instance, the claim that owners can spend money on travel after buying a home does not clearly explain why ownership is valued, and the negative point about owners judging renters is only briefly stated. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or example, and distinguish more directly between why ownership matters in these countries and whether that importance is beneficial overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, paragraphs presenting benefits and a drawback, and a conclusion. Ideas are generally grouped by topic, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Turning towards the other aspects” help signal movement between points. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear: the paragraph beginning “Turning towards” combines social status, relaxation, travel, inheritance and investment without a clear progression. The final paragraph also repeats the positive position rather than drawing the main reasons together. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s focus, and make references such as “it” and “they” unambiguous. More deliberate sequencing would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial security,” “social status,” “landlord,” “inflation rates” and “lifetime best investment.” These choices show an attempt to discuss ownership from several angles, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “significantly valuable in few countries than tenancy,” “rental payouts,” “heritage” for an asset passed to children, and “rental community poor.” Spelling errors such as “judgemant” and “achivement” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural topic-specific combinations, for example “owning a home is highly valued,” “rent payments,” and “pass the property on to their children.” This would make your ideas more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional phrasing (“if they have their own house…”) and a concession introduced by “Although.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “it provides you financial security” (missing an article), “the value of property is increases” (incorrect verb form), and “when someone purchase” (subject–verb agreement). The sentence beginning “Although residents also feel relaxed” is not correctly connected to the following clause, and the conclusion contains inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation. Practise checking articles, agreement and verb forms, and ensure that subordinate clauses are attached to a complete main clause. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts more accurate.
