IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many people are interested to buying new houses instead of renting a renting homes. This trend Follows a secure future for people's upcoming generation. I think this a positive situation because it makes a noticeable change. This essay will discuss the principal and considerable reasons before concluding that it is a positive approach.

One of the most benefial reasons is that it ensures the permanency of their house. When someone buy a house, it is confirmed that this house would use their children to grand children. If they live in a renting house, their children might have face many difficulties. A renting house is a lifetime cost. A family has to bear the cost and after them their children has to pay for it. While buying a apartment would help the residents to save their money or invest somewhere else. Furthermore, when individuals face financial circumstances they have to leave their renting home. As a result, people are choosing to buy a house rather than rent one.

On the other hand, I firmly believe that it is a positive situation because it reduced the pressure of paying rent regularly. Moreover, it helps people to invest their money in other opputunities. Such as their personal and financial growths. They can use the money on education, health, and other accomodation. As a result, it impact their lives in a good way.

Not only it gives a generation but also a long term benefit can take the future generations .

In conclusion, there is no another way to secure their homes rather than buying one. Moreover, it actually a crucial need for humans. So i believe that buying a house is more beneficial rather than renting one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that home ownership offers security for children and explain why you see it as positive, particularly because owners avoid regular rent payments. Your position is stated in the introduction and conclusion. However, the reasons are only partly developed. For example, the claim that buying allows people to “save their money or invest somewhere else” is not clearly explained, and the discussion of education and health does not show how these benefits follow from owning a home. The response also focuses mainly on advantages, with limited explanation of why home ownership is especially important in some countries. Develop each main reason with a clear explanation or example, and make the link to the question more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify your overall position. You also use linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “As a result” and “In conclusion.” However, progression between ideas is not always clear: the first body paragraph moves from family security to lifetime costs and then to financial circumstances without explaining how these points connect. The second paragraph begins “On the other hand,” although it continues to support the same positive position, and the fragment “Such as their personal and financial growths” interrupts the flow. Some references, including “it” in “it impact their lives,” are unclear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason and use transitions that accurately show the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial circumstances,” “long term benefit” and “future generations,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “principal reasons.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “interested to buying,” “a renting house,” “ensures the permanency” and “it gives a generation.” There are also spelling errors such as “benefial,” “oppurtunities” and “accomodation.” Aim for natural combinations such as “interested in buying,” “rented accommodation” and “provide security for future generations.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, and prefer clear, precise language over formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “When someone buy a house” and a contrast beginning “While buying an apartment.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. Verb forms and agreement are often inaccurate: “someone buy,” “it reduced” and “it impact” need corrected forms. Articles and sentence construction also cause problems, as in “buying a apartment” and “Not only it gives a generation but also a long term benefit can take the future generations.” Several sentences are fragments, including “Such as their personal and financial growths.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense and articles. More accurate control of basic structures will make your ideas easier to understand.
