IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

People have different views about some countries owning a house except than renting. I agree with that because own a home is a huge privilege.

On the one hand, most people has on rent in many countries those who are migrate from one place to another. For example, they are moving from one city to another or one country to another so they have not enough money to buy their property the cause of this the home are too expensive so, they can not buy quickly. In addition, the inflation is rose in the world other thing is that those who are migrated they saved their money for living.

On the other hand, this is a negative situation because many people pays their bills rent and other living expense its is the impossible to buy a property. Moreover, in developed countries like USA. or more they gave the facilities but living cost is too high so ordinary people can not buy a house they prefer to live on a rent. I think this is the negative because rent also too much they earn a money and gives their bills like rent but, they buy the property in a loan and installements.

However, every individuals wish to buy a home and mostly people prefer to their home. This is negative impact on their economy and lifestyle. I think policy makers should gives the loan easily and also make a reliable policy for individuals for purchasing the home and live their life with freedom.

In conclusion, owning a home rather than the renting in crucial for everyone that's why they can not gives extra bills for renting,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear view that the situation is negative and suggest that policymakers make loans easier to obtain. However, the response only partly answers the question because it does not clearly explain why owning a home is important to people in some countries. Much of the discussion instead describes why migrants or people with limited money rent, which is related but does not fully address the reasons for valuing ownership. The point that owning a home can reduce ongoing rent costs is relevant, but it is difficult to follow and needs explanation. To strengthen the response, develop two direct reasons for the preference—such as security or investment—and support each with a clear example before evaluating whether this preference is positive or negative.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help show the intended structure. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear: the first body paragraph focuses on why migrants rent, while the next calls home ownership a negative situation without clearly connecting that claim to the reasons in the first paragraph. The paragraph beginning “However” introduces policy recommendations and repeats the negative evaluation rather than extending a distinct point. Some linking expressions are also used mechanically or inaccurately. Organise the body around separate, clearly stated reasons and use transitions to show how each reason supports your position; make sure the conclusion follows directly from those arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “inflation,” “living cost,” “property,” “loan,” and “policy makers,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make ideas unclear, as in “most people has on rent,” “the inflation is rose,” and “they buy the property in a loan.” Repetition of “negative,” “rent,” and “buy” also limits precision. Aim to learn common housing collocations and use them accurately: for example, people “pay rent,” “purchase a property,” or “take out a mortgage.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the reasons people value ownership from the difficulties that prevent them from buying.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect explanation beginning “so they have not enough money to buy their property.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries can make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “most people has,” “those who are migrate,” “the inflation is rose,” and “every individuals wish.” Several sentences also run together, particularly the discussion of bills, rent and buying property in instalments. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and separating complete ideas with full stops. For instance, use “many people pay rent” and “those who migrate,” then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
