IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some of the countries instead of renting a house people are more concern with owning one. The main reason of owning a house is cultural and social status and freedom to modify. I believe this is the positive thing which I will write in this essay.
On the one hand, the main reason of owning a house is cultural and social status, In many countries of europe and asia owning a property is the sign of adulthood and being able to avail responsibility. For example, In European countries after school student do part time jobs and collect money sometimes they earn enough to buy a house and among their family and friends he is now responsible for his life. In addition, freedom to modify is also a reason, because in rental house you can not modify something that you don't like even if you modify or the House's part break then you have to pay extra with rent. For Instance, I'm owning a house I can modify it by myself i can hung pictures of favourites and even more, as a result it can leads you to stress free mind and freedom.
On the other hand, I believe it is the positive situation of being owner of a house it provides a stable environment to raising children, and also encourages forced long term savings, it boosts your psychological security, and can assist to build generational wealth.
In conclusion, owning a house is might be because cultural and social status and also freedom to modify it, and i believe this is the positive situation because of raising children in free environment and also it fosters generational wealth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question and state a clear positive view in the introduction and conclusion. The reasons you identify—social expectations and the freedom to alter a home—are relevant, and the examples about family perceptions and decorating help explain them. Your final paragraph also adds plausible benefits, including stability for children and generational wealth. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the example about young Europeans buying a house after school is broad and not fully convincing, while the benefits in the second body paragraph are mostly listed rather than explained. To strengthen the response further, develop each main point with a clearer explanation of why it matters and avoid generalising about whole regions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and its overall direction is easy to follow. The contrastive opening, “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” signals paragraph roles, while “For example” introduces supporting detail. However, the second body paragraph does not really present an opposing view; it repeats and expands your positive position, so “On the other hand” creates an unclear relationship between ideas. Some links are also mechanical, and the first body paragraph combines several points in a long sequence. Use topic sentences that accurately describe each paragraph, group related reasons more clearly, and make the links between examples and claims explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “social status,” “stable environment,” “psychological security” and “generational wealth.” These show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary, and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “avail responsibility,” “forced long term savings” and “stress free mind.” There are also spelling and form issues, including “favourites” where the intended meaning appears to be “favourite pictures.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise phrasing would make your arguments sound clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a result clause with “as a result.” The main ideas can usually be understood, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences difficult to process. For example, “people are more concern” has an agreement or form problem, and “after school student do part time jobs” needs clearer number and article control. In “it can leads you,” the modal verb should be followed by the base form. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, particularly where a comma joins separate clauses. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modals, articles, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
