Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the graph’s subject and include some relevant figures, such as the 2017 totals of 3.5 million overall, 2 million cruise-ship visitors and 1.5 million staying on the island. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: the total generally rose, while island-staying visitors levelled off and cruise-ship numbers increased markedly. Some details are misreported: in 2012 cruise visitors rose from about 0.5 to 0.25 million, but the total was 1.5 million, not close to the two categories being equal; in 2016 cruise visitors were about 1.5 million, not 2 million, and the total was about 2.75 million, not 2.6 million. The response is also 18 words below the 150-word minimum, limiting its coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to move through the years, so the reader can recognise that it is describing the graph. However, the information is not arranged in a clear overall progression. The second paragraph focuses on 2017, the next jumps back to 2012, and the following one moves to 2016 before the conclusion repeats 2017 and 2012. This makes comparisons difficult to follow. Linking is also limited, and phrases such as “This shows” do not clearly connect the conclusion to a specific trend. Organise the report into an introduction, a concise overview, and body paragraphs that group the main trends or periods. Use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show relationships between the series.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “line graph,” “visitors,” “cruise,” and “increasing,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make the report less clear. Examples include “staying on land” instead of “staying on the island,” “dramaticly decreases,” and “pick us” where “peaked” is intended. Repeated use of “reach” and “increasing” also makes the description imprecise. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions—such as “rose steadily,” “remained stable,” and “reached a peak”—and check spelling and natural combinations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer clauses, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making the intended meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “total numesbers of visitors in a year 2017 kept on increasing” has an unclear time reference and faulty sentence structure, while “total has comes close to one and another” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Verb forms are also inconsistent in “has increase” and “has reach,” and articles and plurals are often missing or incorrect. Punctuation and spacing are unreliable, as seen in the repeated commas and spaces before commas. Practise writing short, complete comparisons with consistent past-tense verbs, then combine them using accurate clauses.
