Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall upward trend and the shift in preference between cruise ships and island stays. You successfully identified the key data points for 2010 and 2017. However, the report is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data interpretation, such as the claim that the total number of visitors remained unchanged between 2015 and 2016, and the description of the island stay figures is somewhat confusing toward the end. To improve, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you clearly distinguish between the two categories throughout the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Whereas', 'Additionally', and 'On contrary' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the total visitor count and the breakdown of categories could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within the final paragraph is weakened by repetitive sentence structures and minor errors in referencing, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'soared', 'dwindled', and 'inclined'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'visitor preferred to stay' instead of 'visitors' preference for staying', and 'reached at peaked' which is grammatically incorrect. Some phrasing is also unnatural, such as 'cruise ships staying' instead of 'visitors staying on cruise ships'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, more precision and attention to collocations would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions. Examples include 'total numbers of visitors were increased' (should be 'increased'), 'reached at peaked' (should be 'peaked'), and 'remains same' (should be 'remained the same'). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. These errors occur frequently, though they do not usually impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent tense usage and eliminating redundant prepositions after verbs like 'reach'.
