Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a general overview and identifies some key trends, such as the overall increase in tourism and the peak in 2017. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the claim that 'around 1 millions of people were visiting' in 2010 is not clearly supported by the graph, and the description of the trends for cruise versus island visitors lacks precision. The summary of the data is somewhat disjointed, and the distinction between the two categories is not always clearly articulated. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the main features are highlighted with greater clarity and logical grouping.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To begin with the year 2010' and 'On the other hand, there was zigzag trend was noticed'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of referencing make the flow feel somewhat forced. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals would significantly enhance the logical flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'zigzag trend', 'steadily increase was witnessed', and '1 millions of people'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic collocations, such as 'a significant upward trend' instead of 'kept rising', and ensure correct pluralisation and article usage when referring to numerical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'there was zigzag trend was noticed'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'number was more than 2.5 millions'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, pay closer attention to sentence construction, particularly the use of passive voice and articles, and proofread to ensure that your sentences are grammatically complete and accurate.
